I had a Torch for two weeks and returned it. Boy am I glad. The 9700 really does run OS 6 better than the Torch. I have all the apps I had before, with 81mb left. Not a ton, but works. Install went seamlessly, and I didn't have to wipe my BB and I didn't Shrink a OS at all.

By the way I'm on AT&T.

OS6 was trimmed down and bugfixed pretty nicely, 108mb left after installation, with no third party apps. Thats more than enough room for quite an amount of apps and memory leaks. OS6 would run smooth on the storm and the other 256mb devices with the proper tweaks, its just that... RIM is either lazy, or if they think they will lose sales on newer devices, they wont release anything at all.

If you think it works well on a 9700, you should try it on a 9780

I didn't bother shrinking, have 20+ apps installed, and still have over 320Mb free

so when can we xpect someone to install this on a 9630. I mean, 9800, 9780,9700, seems 9630 should be next

Nope, not next... never. No trackball devices will get OS6

9300 got it a couple of hours ago... and the 9100/9105 have just got it

If you didn't update the OS on your Torch then you are probably right. The OS version that the Torch came with was horrible. The current version released by AT&T is 1000 times better than the version that the phones shipped with.

Anybody know if any plans are in the works for there toever be an official release of OS6 on any carrier in the near future? It seems to be that most of them are moving on to the 9780 (and therefore may never be releasing an official OS6 edition for the 9700?.

I have to agree. I didn't like the Torch but find OS6 on the 9700 much more efficient and effective. It will be interesting if it gets better with an 'official' release.

I'll agree, it does seem to run smoother on the 9700. Great job to RIM. Hopefully they'll get os6 running that smooth on the 9800. I was actually debating keeping my 9700 and getting rid of the torch, but I cant do it. Touch screen is too nice to have. I kept hitting the screen on the 9700. Will say this, if I had os6 on my 9700 id probably not have gotten the 9800. It really is a fantastic upgrade to the 9700.

You wished! If you are comparing the initial releases of OS 6 on the Torch then you may be right as the phone was still new. But after OS 246 OS 6 flies on the Torch! with 512 MB memory and the combination of touch screen for easy browsing (ie. pinch to zoom), you will never even come close to a Torch buddy. However, if it performs good in your perspective. then Good for you.
    kthxbye

I've got a torch and a 9700 with os6 around to play with. Not sure if it's true for other 9700 with OS6 but it's almost impossible to get a gps lock with current (and only) build.

Also looks like some features have been removed like face detection on the camera. The 9700 had needed to disable most of the Search options indexing to keep from leaking memory. Media Sync over wifi kills the phone outright. (constant waiting cursor)

It's a good start but you can't really compare to a Torch, the newest OS is really snappy.

Is that what causes the memory leak on 9700's? How do you remove it?
