I used my 8900 for just under a year and went through countless official/unofficial/hybrid OS'.

.411 has always been the OS I went back to if I started having problems, or did not like certain hybrids. Although MUCH slower, I found it to be the most solid build for my use.

Actually as of yesterday I loaded .681 on my phone and it blows .411 away. Much faster, better battery life, navigation seems better, browsing is faster.

I always loved my standby but one thing that always drove me nuts with it was it took forever to go into standby. I am liking this new Lock/standby. This is the last version of OS5 I will update my curve 8900 to.

    WHERE ARE YOU BOLD 9780???????

I have the Rogers .822 version and I have no issues. Standby button works and it goes into standby super fast.

I have willyboy hybrid 7.2 version, which is .822 is some package from the OS6, work perfect, no problem, no freezing, UMA work right away, and battery life is way better. No sound problem either. There is the 7.3 version of his hybrid, but so far I'm happy with 7.2 and no need of upgrading, yet.

On Willyboy 7.2 for 8900 and still get the sound issue . Play around with the ring tones for a bit and you shall see.

    Reallyt? You like .681 better?

I can't be bothered with reloading apps etc. Did everything reload for you or did you have to manually reinstall everything?

.681 WAS great, much better on battery life however I noticed I was getting delayed emails. I would have to resend my service books then it would be fine. I actually prefer the new 'Lock" standby however I am so use to hitting the mute key and nothing would happen it kind of drove me nuts.

I don't have much apps installed except Bolt and BB App world and I just did a full backup prior to the installation and they were there. .681 did seem a little smoother but then I noticed it felt the same as .411 later on. So my final verdict is, .681 offers nothing more than .411 did except slightly better battery life.

I did reload .411 as this version is perfect for me

I didn't pay any attention to memory management but definitely will in the future.

Thanks this helps a lot! I have had great luck with 411 but I was thinking 681 was better but if you say no difference really, I'm gonna stay with 411

Thanks for the reply! Great comparison

It kind of is! I was def curious about 681 but the thought of trying to reload apps etc seemed like a chore...haha. esp since I did have some apps given to me. I was afraid of losing them!

How do I downgrade to 5.0.681 from 5.0.822? I am unfortunately with Rogers and the Carrier download link at RIM.COM only has 5.0.822?

I tried downloading 5.0.681 from another Carrier but the Phone will not downgrade it? Blackberry Desktop does not See the OS on the list?

I have issue with Auto focus and hoping that is Software and not hardware?

Try disconnecting the internet. When I loaded 411, I had to do that otherwise the latest official for your device will be automatically detected.

    Hope this helps you!

DO NOT UPDATE TO 5.0.822! The autofocus takes Grainy? Fuzzy pictures? also the profiles do not ring? then the battery will need to be pulled

I tried Downgrading to 5.0.681 successfully but the pictures where still slightly blurry? but I loved that camera shutter sound!

Now I am on 5.0.411 and everything seems to be working ok. The camera is now compariable to my old 8300 2.0MP camera. I just turn off the autofocus now and pictures are a bit better... Par is better than Boggy!

I hope RIM wakes up and fixes these issues. Just to know I jumped ship from APPLE to this! At lease I didnt burn my bridges and I am sure apple will be more than happy welcome me back!

Ps: No comment on RIMS warranty as well...

Was the camera shutter sound a lot different? I heard it was but I don't want to be bothered with an os upgrade to find out

The shutter sound on 5.0.681 was different than 5.0.411 or 5.0.822. But to me the best pictures are with 5.0.411 right now.

I really hope RIM is working on fixing this AUTOFOCUS issue. Its sad to see my Wifes BB BOLD pictures Smoking my BB 8900 as well as my friends old 8320 Curve. LOL

PS: I had to turn off the Autofocus in options. Pictures come out too granny/ fuzzy
