BlackBerry PlayBook Tablet to Cost $300 - Analyst

John Jackson, an analyst from CCS Insight, estimates that the BlackBerry PlayBook tablet announced by RIM recently will cost $300 $350, though RIM hasnt said anything about price point yet. Regardless, anything under $400 would be an aggressive price point and compete with the Samsung Tabs rumoured subsidized $300 pricetag, and the bare minimum $500 you would be pay for an iPad.
Anyone know how legit this CCS Insight group is?

I could only wish it would cost that much but I have a feeling it will be around $500

i was guessing under 400 also from the officially released info that was given. That would be a smart more to be under apple and right around the Tab range

I'm thinking it might be out of context and missing the "with carrier subsidy" tag. That seems a little lowballed considering how much an unsubsidized phone costs. Materials and construction of a handset alone is 200+ iirc

I was thinking it would be about $500. I would be VERY interested at a sub $400 price point.

Well this device was created for the retail market not for the cellular carriers. I mean everyone knows that the MSRP is always ridiculous and many items are priced well below their MSRP. The retail price listed for devices at full retail from a carrier is basically the MSRP. The Playbook is being targeted for retail sale so, they will probably not try to sell it at the MSRP, no one does.

I hope its that price. My wife wants one as much as I do and as already said I'm not getting one if she don't. So I'm buying two of them or none of em.

At somewhere around $300, I'd buy it. I couldn't justify $400 or higher though. An iPad isn't worth it to me for that. Even though it's a BlackBerry, the PlayBook isn't worth more that $300 to me either. Of course, that's just me.

$300 is dirt cheap for this. I'm definitely interested! I like the specs with one exception...2 GB RAM rather than 1...oh wait, that will be on Playbook II !

I'm skeptical about a $300 price point. It'd definitely be competitive if they can release it at that price, but how much would the parts and components to make a PlayBook cost.

Anybody have any guesses? For sake of comparison how much does it cost to make the entry-level iPad?

These analyst always her it wrong and there is no punishment for it can release any article or any poll true or not it doesn't matter now that has become pathetic !!!

At that price RIM would sell a ton of them and get market penetration for sure but it seems pretty low. I think they have to come in under the iPad pricing, but that may be too far under. You can buy Augen Android pads (no capacitive touch screen) for $160 at Kmart, so who knows. Plus everyone expects Apple to come out with a 7" version of the iPad, and it will likely need to come in under the price of the current sized iPad so $300 to $400 could be in the right ballpark.

so explain to me how unsubsidized phones cost $500+ but this thing without carrier subsidy will cost $300. this thing will be north of $500. i could be wrong, but i dont think so.

^ most netbooks now are in the price range of 250-400 anyway.
so $300-$400 is a very competitive price.
the ipad is not worth your $499 plus tax..
just get yourself an ipod touch and a book reader if you want to read e-books

thats correct. thats also years later. they didnt sell for those prices 3 years ago. tablets are a new emerging "next big thing". in 3 years high end tablets likely will be selling for $300.00, but not right now. the cheaply built asian android 1.6 tablets are close to $300.00.

Am I the only one that thinks the PlayBook could easily be $600+?

First off, I have a hard time believing you'll be able to pick up a PlayBook for less than an off-contract Curve 9300. Second, they obviously spent a ton of time working on this, which means high development costs. The hardware is very impressive, and all the components together will add to the high cost of the device.

Finally, it's being marketed as an enterprise device, which means they can justify a higher price point quite easily. I wouldn't be surprised to see a high end version of the PlayBook hitting close to $1000 after tax, just like the iPad.
