i saw a little while back a video of a blackberry startup where it had a quick boot and a short video/movie before it was loaded, does this occur on the 9780 bootup?

For what its worth this is the FIRST leaked OS I've seen for the 9780 that had carrier themes (TMobile and Orange)

Posted from my CrackBerry at wapforums.crackberry.com

i was PM'd on how to do the install and I'm coping and pasting this from another forum that i posted at yesterday. hope this helps those who are having issues.

i downloaded the update (the exe file) installed it. then went into program files\common files\research in motion\app loader\ then i deleted the vendor file.
after that i plugged my 9780 into the pc let it detect it and then opened desktop manager. in the top right hand corner i click the "?" box and from that drop down menu i choose "check for updates". it will scan and then prompt you to update. accept and then in about 15-17mins it will be fully installed and running!

6.0.0.214 is mandatory for new 9780 owners. No more errors now and all works very smooth on the AT&T network, excellent 3G reception

    NO! your 9700 is not a 9780.
it would be like trying to install a 8530 on a 8330. yes they are both a curve but different devices.

Please explain why it wont... I really really want to try this on my 9700 also and i'm having a hard time keeping myself from doing so. I just can't understand why it won't, I thought the only real difference was the ram & megapixel upgrade.

First of all, the 9700 and the 9780 have different hardware IDs built into the device. Therefore loader, and blackberry desktop manager will not allow you to install the 9780 OS onto the 9700. You can force it by taking a 9780, and right about when it starts to load unplug it and plug in your 9700. But then you will brick your device, because the sfi (kernel) file that gets loaded first is built for a completely different hardware spec than the 9700. This is why.

Even if that were the only difference between the 9700 and 9780, RIM would not allow it to happen. They do the hardwired programming and do not allow you to take the OS from one model and install it on another, period.

If you can't help yourself, try to do it. It will either BRICK your device or more likely you will get an install error right off the bat and the process will terminate.

I guess I will just have to patient, thanks for the replies.
So is it possible for someone to extract the mentioned files ( I.e. Hardware I.d. Etc) from a 9700 OS and put them into the 9780 OS?

Agreed and the ones on my 9780 suck so I copied mine from my 9700 to use on my 9780.

I hope the regular carrier released phones will have a better selection, but for me I want what I am used to hearing so I take my tones with me!

I agree the OS6 ringtone selection is pretty dire, and I also copied mine over from my 9700...

however I don't think the carrier released phones will be any different, as the AT&T/Vodafone UK 9800 users have the same deal
