Big debate with the battery issue. My first Torch would only last 7-8 hours on light use. I exchanged it and now doing much better. I also think my expectations were too high - I was expecting to get the same battery life as my 9700. I didn't factor in the larger screen, touch features, etc. And I think (not sure) the Torch battery is a little smaller than the 9700.

Overall, I can get through the day wothout any issues. And I use the updated BerryMeter application to keep me up to date with the battery.

If you are a moderate to heavy user, I'd take a charger to work.

It absolutely depends on your specific and exact usage pattern - for me, it easily makes it throughout the day and battery life doesn't seem to be much worse than my 9000's was - if at all.

A lot of people who say the battery life is worse than their 9000 or 9700 or whatever are not factoring in the probable increased usage that is normal when you get a new device/gadget to play with.

A typical day of use on my Torch is around 100 text messages a day, a few BBM sessions, liberal Facebook app usage, about 5-6 phone calls, and several web browsing sessions. At the end of the day, I usually still have around 70% battery life left, so I am definitely happy with the battery life. I don't think you have anything to worry about.

i charge every other 2 days.
i think i have the "record" of 58 hours from 100% to the red battery icon..
and i won't get tired of posting it..
i have my screen brightness set to 30%
i don't play music nor video..
i do browse the web and check my emails 70 -100/day
i answer most of them with 3-4 paragraph length pieces.
believe it or not.. i do Call as well 10-15/day 3-4 minutes each..
when at work we're suppose to use landline anyway.

No way you get this much battery using it the way you say you do.

It's possible. I think I could go a few days of usage on one full overnight charge. My screen is also set to 30%.

No way! This guy says he has 30% brightness. Okay.

    No video or music. Okay

    Browes the web.

Checks emails - gets 70-100 a day and answers each one with 3-4 paragraphs!

    And outgoing calls?

No way the battery last 58 hours using it this way.

    that's your opinion..
i took the phone from the charger at 5:30 AM Monday
then i put it back around 11 AM -12 Noon..Wednesday..
i think i need to stress this one out " i DO NOT use music or video"
since it's againts policy and i have an ipod for that.
so it's still close to 55-58 hours.
and i carry a blackberry curve as well ( work issued).
what time do you guys go to bed..
i do at 10 and wake up at 4.. so between that time.. even though the Torch is On.. it's on standby.

These are specs no one gets either. Ever gotten 5.5 hours on talk time? No.

    I know you won't get 18 days on stand-by?

Maybe in a lab setting, but not in the "real" world.

i don't want to pick a fight with you... or convince you anymore..
but i think i need to spell it out for you
the TIME in between the charge...
from 100% to the red battery icon.. is 55-58 hours..
    fully charged Monday 5:30ish AM
    Monday night - NO Charging
Tuesday whole day - NO charging
Wednesday - back to the charger at 11:30 AM

if you have read my post from other thread..
the battery meter is fast from 100- 85% i think around 5 hours..
then it will hold at 70%
from 15% to the Red battery icon i was still able to pull roughly 3.5 hours.

Mine depends on usage. This is my first BB, so I have no comparison to other models. But there were both BIS outages & tower issues where I live, for more than several days. During those times, battery life dwindled rapidly. I wasn't going to make a full day without recharging while I was at work. When I have full 3G bars & BIS, I've been at 58%, having multiple calls totalling several hours, 2 email accounts, more frequent than hourly social & RSS feeds & Shao's wallpaper changer, plus BeWeather. So, battery life can be exceptional, but any degradation of conditions seems to be a battery killer.

I get maybe 100 emails a day and all kinds of social feeds. I talk about an hour a day on the phone, getting and making calls. so far, I've used about half of my battery power per day, meaning that I have 50% by bedtime (which is usually way after midnight). I charge every night, so this is not a problem. That was a big shock after the 9700 I had which could go two or three days without charging with the same use, but touchscreens and big displays do that to you. Witness my son's Droid X, which with the same use is drained by 2:00 each day with a larger battery!

Probably in a similar boat as far as usuage. Although I'm on bbm all day. I top up around mid day at 2 clock from 50% to 100% and then by the time I go to sleep (around 1 or 2 am) it's back around 50% again. I'm around chargers all day so I have no problems with the battery.

You might have apps running in the background that are draining the battery - especially ones that constantly check for updates.

If you're having these issues and you don't think you have anything doing the above, you might have a faulty battery and need to swap it out for a new one.

+ 1 on all those social feed updates like facebook, twitter, google talk, YM etc..
if you have them set to update.. let's say every 5 minutes..
then you're gonna be draining the battery really fast.
check if you have any other open apps ( holding down the BB button) and then close them.. you should have close to 5 open apps normally..
namely browser, messages, phone, BBM and home icon

I refuse to bring back another phone but my battery life sucks to say the least. I took it off the charger at 8:30am and never touched it at all or made any phone calls, signal stayed strong, and wifi and bluetooth is off, and I only have 70% at 11am!!! So frustrating esp when I finally don't have nearly any wobble with bringing back 2 phones for various issues, and now I have the warm tinted screen(made in mexico) and horrible battery life! But I do love it other than those issues.
