I was updating a friend's OS for them because their laptop wasn't working at the time. It's a curve 8530 on Verizon and I was updating it to the latest Verizon release. After the update finished, Desktop Manager froze so I restarted. However, the software had not restored the backup (ie, contacts, messages, etc.) It had only updated the applications and reloaded the third party apps.

In My Documents folders, there is no Loader Backup.ipd file BUT there's a .SFI file that's about 18 megs in C:\Users\[User name]\AppData\Roaming\Research In Motion\BlackBerry\Loader Cache\[lots of numbers and letters]\CDMA. Could that .SFI file contain some of the information I'm looking to restore?

the SFI file is the "radio" file for the OS being installed. It is not the backup file. The backup file will be named something to effect of "LoaderBackup-(2010-06-23).ipd" The file will contain the date when the file was created.
