I have a friend that want's to join the BB community. Problem is he has a current contract with Telus and it will cost $500 to cancel it, so he figures he'll buy an unlocked BB of the internet and use it on his contract (adding a data plan of course). It is my understanding that Telus will not accivate a phone from another carrier, but yet I have read about others using Rogers BB on Telus. What are my friends options?

You can use the Rogers 9000 and 9700 on Telus, IF they are unlocked with released PINs. I'm not too sure on the 9100 or 9300.

After that they need to be phones ending in xx30, these devices are Telus specific, and cannot be from another carrier. Examples are 8130 8230 8330 9530 9550 9630 and I'd reccomend a 9650 if they have it.

    Good luck!

I'd say check your local kijiji and meet the seller at a Telus store to make sure it can be activated before purchase.

    From the telus Website ( Smartphones*|* Phones & devices*|* TELUS Mobility )

BB 9100 will work on Telus, unlocked or Telus branded.
Ditto for the 9300 (Curve 3G)

From the BlackBerry website: BlackBerry - Curve 3G Where to Buy - BlackBerry Curve 9300 Price
