- SO the posting on the front page is saying that the new curve 3G is basically and updated GSM 8520, updated to 8530 specs (3G/GPS?More Memory). The news release also states that the phone will come with OS 5.0 but will be UPGRADEABLE TO OS6.0. If this is true I don't think its much of a leap to think that our earlier model curves will be getting 6.0. I for one am excited!08-09-10 06:55 AMLike 0
- pcgizmo#IMCrackBerry Ph.D.RIM did not include 85xx Curve2 in it's list of devices current "in market" that will be getting OS6. 9700, 9650, 9100 were mentioned specifically.08-09-10 07:10 AMLike 0

- More memory? I read the specs on the Blackberry site and I read 256mb RAM/internal memory, just like my 8520. You would think we'd get supported but I'm betting we're not. So, if you want an 8500 model with BB6, get the 9300. I'm not getting it since 9 months from now they'll probably release the next Curve 3G with 512mb of memory. I'll be looking to play with the 9800 at an ATT store when I visit the States. If I lke what I see, I'll buy one (unless I win the contest!) when I get the cash for an unlocked one.
Posted from my CrackBerry at wapforums.crackberry.com08-09-10 09:20 AMLike 0 - Yday I posted RIM as to making the best decision for us Curve 2 owners depending upon hardware speeds but after seeing the Curve 3G it'll be a blatant slap in the face if they give the 8530/8520 the axe. If they wanted this to happen, they could. A mere firmware version is not enough to keep us out.
Posted from my CrackBerry at wapforums.crackberry.com08-09-10 09:56 AMLike 0 - The Curve 3G also has 256MB of memory, while our 85XX models only have 128MB. That is what is holding us back from OS6.
I'm hopefull that my carrier will pick up the new model, and quickly. I still have 3 weeks left to trade in my 8530, and would rather have something that will remain viable for longer.

RIM has said that the 85XX will NOT be getting OS 6. We are EOL'ed. Look for hybrids.08-09-10 01:45 PMLike 0 - The Curve 3G also has 256MB of memory, while our 85XX models only have 128MB. That is what is holding us back from OS6.

The more I look at the 8500 and the 9300, the more I think I can fake it by just changin the keyboard/faceplate/lens... Hybrids will come. There are some already, but when the 9300's BlackBerry 6 is out, chances are we'll be able to "upgrade" without buying new devices at all...08-09-10 02:27 PMLike 0 -
I am expecting all kinds of hybrid goodies, I already have over 30 6.0 COD files running but I hope to get the whole 6.0 interface/webkit once it is released for the curve3g.08-09-10 03:24 PMLike 0 -
- When did RIM say the 85xx will not get it ? They just didn't include it in the primary list, but that also didn't include the curve3g.

Comparison08-09-10 03:56 PMLike 0 - As pointed before, the 8500 series do have 256mb. It is the Bold 9000 that has 128mb.

In the mean time, here is what Fixmo Tools' Memory Monitor has to say about it:

I know he means RAM, that's why I posted the picture. Fixmo shows both my Curves around the 30s on RAM.
I'm not saying the 9700 doesn't have 128MB of RAM, but I really doubt the 8500's do. Then again if I am wrong, correct me. I'm more interested about knowing right then being right.08-09-10 09:01 PMLike 0 - BlackBerry Bold 9700 - Full phone specifications

Both say 256MB for the 9700.
This is the problem with RIM devices, there are no official specs available for many critical items. Not that I can blame them. Ever notice how RIM won't list the CPU speed for the 9650? That's cause it's slower than the 9700 (discovered by a site during a tear down) and would be rather embarrassing to publish.
Given the available info out there, I'm sticking with my assumption that the 8500 series is 128MB RAM and the 9700 is 256MB, unless anyone can show me something more official.
As for Fixmo...
Fixmo tools is reporting the amount of memory the operating system is allowing an application to use at the present time, and not the total amount of memory available on the device.Last edited by acaden; 08-10-10 at 12:14 AM.
08-10-10 12:05 AMLike 0 - When they announced OS 5 8520/8530 were not in the list to get it. So at the moment nobody knows what is going to happen. Given the fact that the 9300 will get OS 6 and has basically the same hardware, there is no hardware-based reason that 8520/8530 won't get OS6.The ones who said that because of the low display resoultion or the 256MB RAM the 8520/8530 would be to weak should simply be quiet and wait.08-10-10 01:26 AMLike 0

As I said there is no hardware-related reason for the 8520 not to get OS6.08-10-10 02:22 AMLike 0 - diegoneiRetired Mod & AmbassadorI'm still not convinced guys, sorry. Althou Fixmo says it shows the free amount, why then have it separated by RAM and ROM? I've seen screenshots of 9700 users and then yes, we do see 128ish RAM.
papped, would you care to check your 9650? Using the Fixmo Tools trial? I know this is getting a little offtopic but should we figure it out, it's one less thing to count (or maybe the very reason for no 6).
No, it has 256MB Onboard Memory + 256MB Flash Memory. Same specs as 9300.

We know for a fact the Torch has 4GB and the S2 has 2GB for media (onboard). And I know for a fact my 8520 has none.

I will never understand why RIM allows for such mistakes on that sheet...Last edited by diegonei; 08-10-10 at 08:25 AM.
