No it doesn't. Push email is counted out of your data MB. Messaging refers only to SMS and MMS.

Careful, Mark. You forgot to mention that BlackBerry Messenger may also count against the messaging allowance. That should definitely be double checked with customer care.

Mark is correct...
BBM is data not messaging. If you have a messaging plan it's SMS and MMS that's counted. Everything else is data (email, BBM, Yahoo IM, AIM, etc.)
May I stick my nose in here for a second? Just wanted to add that if you turn off or block data/internet access you won't be able to MMS in or out. I did that on my kids' phones. Mommy is a control-freak I guess that makes MMS messaging+data dependent.
Yes pixel8berry, on a BlackBerry, MMS works through the service books that gets pushed to you when you have a data plan. No data plan, no MMS, but it still is part of the messaging part of your plan. This frustrates many people who use the BlackBerry's without a data plan.
There are carriers that do count BBM as a SMS. Thats why I said it is best to double check with Customer Care.
Provide an example please?
That's not how BBM works. It's data, always, there's no way for a carrier to be able to tell if your using BBM, sending an email, or looking at porn. It all uses data and all the carrier knows is that you're using it.
If some carriers count them as messages then they would be able to track them, view each single one and know who it's coming or going from. If this was the case do you think RIM would be having all these issues in the Middle East right now? Those governments want to view those BBM's, if they were counted as messages they would have no problem viewing them. Which is why BBM always counts as data...
I would love to also know which carrier counts BBM as SMS. SMS is sent over the voice network. I have had or have a BB on all major carriers but T-Mobile. All count against data not messaging. Thanks for the back up Ridesno.
In regards to the OP, they were asking about push email. They never mentioned BBM. That's beside the point.
In regards to MMS not working when data is turned off, MMS does use data to transmit the contents. Even though it does rely on the data network, it is covered in your messaging plan. Messaging plans cover text, picture, video, and voice memo messages. So even though data is used, it is not a billed MB but just as a single MMS from your messaging allotment.
