Software For BlackBerry Bold (TM) 9700 smartphone

    BlackBerry Handheld Software v5.0.0.1302 (Multilanguage)

    Package Version: 5.0.0.1302
    Consisting of:

    *Applications: 5.0.0.770
    *Software Platform: 5.1.0.168
    *File name: 9700M_PBr5.0.0_rel1302_PL5.1.0.168_A5.0.0.770_i_wi reless.exe
    *File size: 133.5MB

Note: The Software Platform and Applications version numbers can be found under Options-About screen on the handheld.

    Download Software here

Instructions for installing on ANY carrier's 9700:

    1. Download the above OS file to the PC then install it to the PC by running (double clicking) the file you downloaded.
    2. Go to c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader and delete the file named "vendor.xml."
    3. Plug in BB and double click on "Loader.exe." It's located in the same place as the above vendor.xml file.

The process takes about 45 minutes to an hour depending on how much data you have to backup and restore during the process. Once it's done loading the new OS it will reboot (it may do this twice during the entire process.) You will see a white screen with an hourglass for up to 20 minutes at a time while the DM says "waiting for initialization."
If, for some reason, you end up with a white screen with small icons and the number 507, simply connect to the PC again and run Loader.exe again and it should load the OS to the device.

Saudi Arabia will suspend the BBM on the 6th of Aug

because they can't decrypt the conversation and till now RIM won't give them the Encryption keys as they did with India

so without the BBM , most of the users will cancel the service till RIM & Saudi Government reach agreement

It's such a shame. I guess they'll have to use an alternative to bbm.

My guess is that this one is "official" and the other one is not...thus not getting it off the RIM site.

    Your guess is correct sir!
.865 was a Leaked OS and still hasn't been released Officially. Whereas .770 was Officially released by I Wireless I believe. Has anyone tried it yet? @BBKP yes it is an upgrade as the OP says this software platform is 5.1.0.168.

Upgraded from .405 a few days ago...rebooting the phone is SUPER fast compared to before, it takes maybe 2 minutes compared to 6+....however, my SMS is now a bit buggy...sometimes it wont let me open a conversation...sometimes the red asterisk is still there after I read a msg, and sometimes when I type a msg and hit SEND, it appears to delete what I just typed, even though it sends the SMS...a few times I retyped and sent only to be told by the recipient that they got the message twice...

Ahh well, I guess I can live with a little bugginess until BB6 is released...

Just curious if anyone else is having these SMS issues with this build??

EDIT: Nevermind, I upgraded to .602, thought I upgraded to .770

I love using the latest OS build

I think OS 6 is going to really be platform 5.1.0.xxx or 5.2.0.xxx if you look at the version information in About under options on the newest device. We'd then know. lol

PS. Haven't you realized that 5.0 is windows 2000's version number, XP sp1 is 5.1, windows 2003 is 5.2? hmmm.....
