"Well this is interesting This version of our already loved and extremely reliable Blackberry 9700 was spotted in the wild by one of my buddies that was kind enough to send me a sweet picture of it. This one is known as the Blackberry Bold 9780″, and by the picture you can see that is running on OS 6.0. This proves what we already know, but some dont, which is the fact that NON TOUCHSCREEN Blackberry devices will get OS 6.0. Also, the slight difference from our regular 9700 would be the fact that the chrome bezel is darker (almost black). As far as the guts go we all know that it has 512mb of flash memory, but nothing else as off now. Id say stay tuned as the story develops and maybe even some videos if we get lucky!"

Is that a brownish-black color, or is that just a lighting affect? Interesting.

Sigh. I guess this means the 9700 won't get the new OS.

I hope T-Mobile does some sort of trade-in program (if they get the phone) and allow us to get the 9780.

Might be part of the reason for the new upgrade policy.

    What did they change?

Smartphones are eligible for a 1/2 contract upgrade I believe. A lot of carriers are making moves to change the upgrade cycle to get people into newer smartphones more frequently. It's a great revenue move.

Gosh...I just renewed my contract for another two years. I'd have to wait until next July.

Is that a forward facing camera? The right side looks like a flash, maybe dual. And that little spot on the right might just be a camera no? Any word?

How do you figure that? This doesn't say that at all as far as I'm concerned.

That's the LED display, not a camera.

I agree with igster, I still think the 9700 will have OS 6.

What is the purpose of a refresh? I don't see why they wouldn't just release a new phone instead of just adding more memory, a new bezel, and an updated camera to the same device. I don't see ANYTHING else that is different from the 9700. It reminds me of the the "update" the 9650 got from the Tour. It won't even have 802.11n or be HSPA+ compatible...it's being rushed in time for the OS6 release.

I think we pinned the tail on the donkey on this one. So much just doesn't make sense.

To be honest, I really don't care if my Bold 9700 doesn't get the new OS 6 I mean think about it once the Bold 9780 comes out around fall the 9700 will be a year old and outdated. Just saying.

Not really what most of us are fretting about. The original Bold was roughly one year old when the 9700 got released, but it received the new OS. The original Tour was also roughly one year old when the 9650 was released, but it also received the new OS.

Well, fact of the matter is, I am a new BB user. I JUST purchased a 9700. If RIM comes out with OS6 and my top-of-the-line-can't-buy-anything-better-currently BB does not support the new OS, I'm not going to be happy. I just signed a new contract for this brand new 9700. I don't have another hardware upgrade for quite some time.

As a brand new BB user, I will be left with a pretty bad taste in my mouth right off the bat and I can't be the only one.

Not at all. If you as a new user feels this way imagine what the "lifers" among
    us feel.

The hard reality here is that RIM seems to not have a grasp on device
direction. Storm users were essentially beta testers for the Storm 2.
Tour users were essentially beta testers for the 9650. And we, the owners
of RIMs current flagship device are about to find ourselves in the
    same position.

Fortunately for me I barely use the browser and am not the biggest social networker.
But the are many who care about this and I really will feel bad for them if OS 6
does not come to the 256mb devices, even if it stripped down a bit.
