So I've done so much research on UMA for my 9700 on Rogers and just when I was ready to give up I figured it out. I went to the web address below to gain access to my escreens: BB Escreen Calc Keygen - Unlock Blackberry

Once there I go to "Mobile Network Engineering Screens", then "Utilities ...", then "Session Manager", then hit the menu button and go to "UMA Options", hit the menu button again and go to "Add Rogers UMA profiles" and it'll inject the Rogers certificates and profile (it may ask you to create a cert store profile w/ password, just go ahead and do that). You will then have "Rogers" in your UMA list. Select it and then go back and hit Save.

Then make sure your cell radio and wifi are turned on along with switching from 3G or 3G or 2G to 2G only and go back to the main menu of the ecreen and go to the "Multi-WAF Engineering Screens", then "Radio Control Engineering Screen", then "3GPP", change the 4 "Unknowns" to "Disabled", "Disabled", "Enabled", "GAN and then go down to "Set RAT Configuration" and click on it. All of this information was found by posts from other readers.

What I want to know is do I have to do the "Multi-WAF Engineering Screens" section mentioned above everytime I want my 2G to switch over to UMA? Because everytime I leave my WiFi the hand over to 2G never occurs and vise versa.

this has been beaten to death on howards forum... but essentially to get the hand off and the auto transfer to UMA without having to go into the EScreen all the time, the Rogers bold needs to have the "preferred connection" in the mobile network section of options... which it does not... and we have narrowed that down to being a firmware issue... the Rogers firmware does not allow that option to appear... there is no way to change the firmware, and no putting a tmobile OS will not do it either... the firmware is hard coded into the device and cannot be hacked or flashed or anything of the sort... so we are stuck without UMA until Rogers decides to give it to us... which "could" happen with OS6 but dont hold your breathe

so in short, if you want UMA you have to enable it every single time you want it in the EScreens... no way around it at this time

Thanks for the feed back guys. Now here is my next question. If I'm in the US will I be able to download the cert for Tmobile and make it work the same way? BTW I don't have to switch to 2G, I keep it in 3G or 2G setting and it switches over fine into UMA.

UMA seems to work after a battery pull, but once it connects to the 3G network it won't go back to UMA until another battery pull if/when the mobile network is lost. Anyone else having this issue? Or any ideas?

I have found that too, UMA lasts about 45 mins or so, then switches back to just 3G, only way to get it back it by resetting/battery pull.

    Sorry for the noob questions.
I don't really know anything about UMA, but is it essentially, using your wifi connection to make phone calls?
You are all mentioning switching between 3G/2G to UMA during a call. How does this affect minutes on a voice plan when it switches to wifi?

Also can you turn the mobile network off, and just use wifi to make calls?

    Thanks.

I didn't wipe my phone before installing, Did you? I wonder if that has anything to do with it. Might give it a shot when I have more time.

Agreed man, I'm sick of being behind in the technology here. Nokia has also been able to do this for over a year as well. VoIP is not "NEW" technology and WiFi is here on most BB's so WTF???? Wait wait wait ....UGH!

UMA is a licensed product... and Rogers is the one in Canada that licensed it... just like tmo in the US... so Bell or Telus getting it, is extremely unlikely...

hmmm have a look at your router settings, i havent had a single issue as of yet with my UMA... what i would suggest doing is reset your router, like it just came out of the box... dont security password the wireless, connect to it and see how it works from there.... if it doesnt, try using WPA for your protection... then report back to us and let us know how its going... PM if you have any questions

Tried your suggestions, and same thing. It work intermitently. Not sure what the wireless security should have to do with it. Any other suggestions would be appreciated
