Yesterday I was playing on my friend's Bold 9700 and noticed that she had OS 5.0 . It looks pretty nifty , so I want to update mine .
    I'm relatively new to updating OS's . I don't know how to .

I am on Orange UK and there isn't a OS 5.0 availiable for the 8520 , unfortunately .
I've heard that you can use other carrier's OS's if you remove the vendor.xml file ?

I have OS v4.6.1.314 - the OS that came with my device .
Can anybody possibly give me a walkthrough on how to update the OS using the vendor.xml technique ?

    Thank you !

You got a disk with your blackberry to load blackberry Desktop manager onto your pc, install it update it and connect your phone via usb then upgrade it. There is OS 5 for the curve.

I have connected my phone to the PC with DM ,
But I don't have an OS update for my 8520 because my carrier (Orange) hasn't released an update for it .
This is why I was referring to the vendor.xml technique .

How to Install or Upgrade to a New RIM BlackBerry Operating System (OS) with AppLoader | CrackBerry.com

It has a full instructions on how to install other carrier's updated OS into your phone.

I really recommend using the AppLoader (Loader.exe) to update your phone because it's easier and probably quicker...
