I Just got my new Blackberry Bold 9700 after 9000.
my old BB 9000 was able to connect perfectly, but this one not.
any ideas how to do so ?

just not to get things confused:

My Old BB with the same SIM card, i was able to BBM.
i inserted the same SIM card to my New BB but it doesn't work now.
do i need a new data plan? :S

I'm not sure how you were able to access BBM without a data plan on your old bold but I am 100 percent sure that you CANNOT use BBM if you do not have a data plan

Well if you want to benefit from bbm + emails + browsing on the go then you have to get a data plan . Otherwise , the only thing you could do without a data plan is use wifi for some apps that support it .

Lol I'm currently opposite you in jbr it will work even if he doesn't have roaming but only via wifi

A friend of mine here in Toronto is using his Etisalat SIM card with a data plan he had there, and his BBM works here.

Would my BBM work in Dubai too?, with my fido SIM?, I do have a data plan here.

To use BBM you need a BIS or BES account for your BB. When you have an account and use Wifi, your bb sends a request to the BIS/BES server over the internet rather than the airwaves. If you don't have a dataplan then there is no BIS/BES account. If you have data and are switching phones you need to log into your BIS (or call your IT guy if BES) and swap the device info to use the new unit.
