Hi friends. Finally I have decided to switch to GSM from CDMA ( its been almost five years now ) and get myself a BB !!! I was really sick for waiting for price decrease of 9630 ( still the price is 580 USD !!! ), Dreaming of 9650 Launch and there is 8530 now available at 400 USD !!! Even 8330 is still @ 350 USD !! wow !!! in India all CDMA carriers are trying to rob the people. Anyways

Now my confusion is between 8520 and 9700.

8520 is available at 300 USD and 9700 is available at 590 USD ( In India, we dont have any contract system ) I know all the major differences between the two.

If I want, I can stretch myself for that extra budget I need to spend for 9700 but is it worth ?? do I really need all that ?? this is going to be my first BB.

Im leaning towards 8520. Help me

If I had the cash, Id have a 9700. The 8520 is a great phone, but the 9700 is an monster.

If you'll be able to get the 9700, I'd go for it. If your budget is kinda short, go to 8520. 8520 is a great phone, but the 9700 is greater.

I'm sorry but that makes your logic flawed considering you are complaining about the high prices of the CDMA phones, then you are willing to get a GSM phone that is priced 10 dollars MORE

Anyways, on to the topic... You need to determine what exactly you will be using your BB for. If you are going to be using it for business (loads of emails & heavy use) then I would suggest going with the 9700. But if you are just using it for personal use ( browse the web every now and then, some email, and chat) then I would say go with the 85x0.

The GSM 8520 has UMA capabilities which means it can utilize a wifi network to send/receive calls and texts through that, as long as your carrier provides it.

Also the GSM 8520 does not have GPS while the CDMA 8530 does... if you like using the GPS with maps then maybe that is something to consider.

They are both great phones and each has their pros and cons.
