- Just wondering if it's a good idea to upgrade from the 8330 to the 8530 on Verizon. I have my 8330 basically filled with apps, I have 3 email accounts on it, I use Twitter, Google Maps, and BBM frequently, and I like checking headlines and stuff online. Also, I don't have a landline. I can get the 8530 for free, which is why I'm looking at it over the new Bold or the Tour.06-12-10 04:18 PMLike 0
- I upgraded from the 8330 and its awesome. At first, I thought it had a bit of a "cheap" feel, like some people say, but I think just because its lighter. If you like your 8330, the 8530 is just leaps and bounds faster, more memory, plus a trackpad and wifi. Its fantastic.
I gave my 8330 to my daughter, and yesterday I picked it p and it feels like a dinosaur.
Posted from my CrackBerry at wapforums.crackberry.com06-12-10 04:26 PMLike 0 - The 8530 is a great upgrade if you like the spaced keyboard.
If you want a full upgrade I would highly suggest you check out the 9650. It offers the trackpad, high resolution screen, wifi, WAY more memory and personally I like the keyboard more.
The pricing is a little more, but you will be getting a top of the line device and giving yourself a full upgrade.06-12-10 04:28 PMLike 0 - If the 8530 is your only option, then just get it. 8530 is better than the 8330, period. But if you'll be able to upgrade to 9650, 9700, or the Storm 2, I'd recommend getting one of those instead of the 8530.06-12-10 07:05 PMLike 0
- I am very happy coming from my 8330 to my curve 2. The phone does lack the bulk I enjoyed about my 8330 but I solved that problemn by adding the ottertbox xommuter case to bit. Wifi is awesome, trackpd is GREAT, and I've been able to put over 30 apps on this phone without it bogging down. I say go for it!!!!
Posted from my CrackBerry at wapforums.crackberry.com06-12-10 07:33 PMLike 0 - I would get it just for the memory along.
With the memory OS 5 runs so smoothly and threaded messages make this a great sms device. I have tonnes of applications and still 90mb of free memory left, thats more than the total for the 8330 :P
My 8330 was so slow and the trackball was starting to get dirty, it was time for an upgrade.06-12-10 10:27 PMLike 0 - I got it because of Tour trackball issues. It is a good little device. I actually am getting my upgrade in March and want the Bold. I played with it the other day
It is sweet. You would like both so make your choice wisely06-13-10 12:15 PMLike 0 - I am very happy with my 8530 - took a few days to get used to it from the 8330, but i know i made the right choice06-13-10 03:03 PMLike 0

- I just upgraded from the 8330 to the 8530, and I love it. I don't think it feels cheaply made.....it is just a little bit lighter is all. It is true that if you add a sturdy case like the otterbox, you won't notice the difference in weight. I have an otterbox on mine for protection, because I am a clutz and tend to drop things!
If you like the 8330, I say definitely get the 8530.06-15-10 06:48 AMLike 0 -
- I went to the store and fiddled with it for a few minutes. The keyboard felt fine and the trackpad will take a little getting used to (it was a little fast). I had to order it over the phone because they couldn't do it in the store, but I'll have it by Thursday and I'll be able to really see how everything works.06-15-10 08:42 PMLike 0

Posted from my CrackBerry at wapforums.crackberry.com06-15-10 09:40 PMLike 0 - I too love the upgrade from 8330 to 8530. I originally went to Tour . .. be all know how that ended. Back to the 8330. Only recently, after trackball issues, did I upgrade to 8530. It is great! So, what is a "hybrid" OS and where do I get the hook up? I have also messed around during this period with an Android - achieved root and everything! I did love that system once I got it where I wanted it. However, eventually back to the BB that I love. But, a "hybrid" anthing sounds quite interesting!06-16-10 06:04 AMLike 0
- Yes, the 8530 is a great device to upgrade from your 8330. I love mines but I have had to die on me. The device started to get hot and then within an hour it was dead. I don't know why and VZW can't answer that either. I work in the basement of an official building and my Berry uses a lot of power I guess trying to hold on to that signal so I'm guessing that may have something to do with it but of the flip side, my company uses Blackberries but mines is the only one that has had this problem. Now those other users don't not have an office in the basement unlike me being down there full time. I absolutely love the 8530 and when I had a demo Tour for a month (VZW emp) my 8530 fully outperformed the Tour in all respects. The only thing I wish it had would be the Tour's camera. Also for me, the Curve 8530 feels so much better in my hands despite not having the Tour's great keyboard. People say the it feels cheap and too light but my 8530 has survived a couple of big drops that probably would have cracked or killed that heavy Tour. It's called an entry-level device but I don't think so; it's great. I will say this; my 3rd 8530 meets a demise like the first one and two, I think I will try the 9650 even though I'm not in love with the way it feels in my hands. If it does happen and I hope not, hopefully VZW will front me the 9650 since I would have killed 3 8530's since it came out this past December. But don't let my story discourage you about choosing the 8530; I absolutely love this phone and even if some call it an entry-level device, it still rolls with the big dogs (the Tours and Bolds) and usually better then the big dogs. BTW, both times when my device died I had to pull out my trusty Pearl 8130 that had always been 100% rock-solid for me. The only weird thing when I've had to do that is going back to the trackball from the trackpad. It made my Pearl feel like it was 20 years old after having used the trackpad on the 8530!06-19-10 09:00 AMLike 0
- I just upgraded my phone from the 8330 and I am very happy I did. The addition of wifi, the trackpad, and more memory makes it all well worth it!
Posted from my CrackBerry at wapforums.crackberry.com06-19-10 12:12 PMLike 0 - I went and paid big bucks to upgrade...well worth the money. I think the 8530 makes the 8330 feel like a 7XXX...06-20-10 02:07 PMLike 0
