Hello, Im new here, 1st thread

I really want a BlackBerry, like really bad. I dont wanna waste my money though. What is it about the 9700 that makes it better than the Curve 8250 and 8900 for example? Ive heard that the Bold excels because it has a better camera and it actaully has 3G?

Is this true? Many thanks, fellow CrackBerries xxxx

The bold does have 3G, if you check out carrier websites they state that it has 3g.

It will be interesting to see how the 9700 compares to these new devices when they actually get out into the hands of the consumers. Its hard to get a grasp on how good a device actually is until its proven in the field. It will be a tough task, IMO, to beat the 9700, especially if (when) the OS6 is released for it.

    My opinion.

Form factor. I had the 8900 when it first came out. Loved the weight and size of the phone. Makes it very pocket-able and easy to manage with one hand. When I put it away (in my phone collection) and picked up a Motorola Cliq (im also an android fan), I really began to miss the form factor of my 8900 so I decided to pick up the 9700.

The 8900 and 9700 are almost identical in weight and size but the 9700 has 3G and WiFi which is perfect. I always use WiFi at home. The trackpad is soooo much better than the trackball. This 9700, IMO, is also the sexiest of all the BBs. My friend has a 9630 and although the specs in size and weight don't seem that much on paper, when holding both phones at the same time, you can feel it.

I've also noticed that my 9700 is more stable than my 8900 was. No random resets, no long boot-up times, very fast at switching programs with absolutely no hesitation.

The other thing is.....the 9700 "should" be able to accept the new OS6 when it comes out. If you spend enough time reading the forums, you will get more info. Regardless of it does or not, my BB does everything I need it to do so I'm a happy camper.

Brilliant answer, thank you. I was just wondering if I was to get the internet on a 25 pounds per month contract, woud I be able to go on absolutely ANYTHING on the internet, or would it be restricted to just the social networking sites?

And how are the videos on YouTube? Can they be seen clearly? Many thanks again xx

Don't forget the 9700 has gps too. The Curve 8520 doesn't. I assume you mean 8520 and not 8250.

It's not any more. The 9650 is now the best BlackBerry phone as it has all the features of the 9700 plus it can do GSM and CDMA plus it has double the memory of the 9700. The 9650 is the new King of the BlackBerry smartphones.

Except that, with the phone choices mentioned, the op is asking about phones that are offered on a GSM carrier, in which case the 9700 rules the roost.

Correct on the screen res. I spotted that and scrolled down to see if anyone else had posted, and yeppers! Something about the screen is nicer than the 83XX series, but it's definitely not a upper level screen.

Oh, and Camerawise, Autofocus, and a Flash. And unless it changed and I hadn't heard, Zoom in Video Mode.

I believe the processor in the 9650 is slower as well.

Yea but for users overseas it can as it has 2100Mhz 3G. For some reason the USA carriers never want to follow the rest of the world on what for the rest of the world is pretty much a standard.
