- TLR version:
w00t i got a new White 9700
Long Version:
This all starts out a short while ago. I was having... issues with my Bold 9K's track ball & headphone jack.
I went to a Roger's+ Kiosk to see if i could pick up a new 9700. I didn't qualify for an hardware upgrade but i was willing to pay for a ball less BB.
snagged an associate who seemed to be sullen and mopey. they others where too busy "working" to help customers (if you know what i mean). it took a bit of convincing but the sales guy finally figured out i was there to buy something.
9700? yeah in stock... ringing it up. cool right?
Suddenly one of the other sales reps steps in and starts berating my salesman. From what i could gather the new guy was telling off the first guy for trying to sell me the phone. confused?
at this point i was slightly more sympathetic with my sales guy. I was starting to see why he was mopey and sullen; if his co-workers regularly treated him like that in front of a customer. but wait! why is he getting in trouble for trying to sell me a phone?
store policy. i'm not kidding. apparently the store policy didn't allow new phones to be sold outright. that's right; if i didn't like it i could take it up with customer support... yup.
this was the store manager's specific rule and he was on vacation.
I was surprised the ********* didn't try to shoo me away with a broom.
skipping ahead a BBB9k trackball replacement or two and a few months. two days ago I walk into a different Plus store. Told a sales rep that i was having some issues with my BB and would like to upgrade.
tappity tap into the system. hmmm, nope. i don't qualify for upgrade but... i should contact customer support to get a new phone. not just any customer support; it has to be customer retention. The sales girl told me that they could get me a 9700 for ~150$ca. she herself could only give me 500$ price.
*sigh*
next morning i call 611, navigated the labyrinth till i found a human. hi! i want to speak to a customer retention person please!
... um, maybe i can help you sir. i can't exactly transfer you to customer retention.
*deep breath* i'm trying to upgrade from my falling apart BBB9k to a BB with no balls. I explained to him what had happened the day before.
well sir, you are eligible for an upgrade. you can go to any Plus store and pick one up (if they have any in stock).
... confused?
apparently the info the people at Rogers HQ can see isn't exactly mirrored to what the stores see...
... ok whatever, how do i know if i go back to the store that they won't bounce me again.
The support guy inputs some info into my account and gives me an ID number. says that if they store people have any problems to that number.
*sigh*
so i go to a different Plus store. a little closer to home this time. only one sales guy behind the counter with no nametag or uniform.
9700?
tons in stock
do you have white?
yup
I'll take it!
wham, bam, thank you and i walked out with a shiny new BBB 9700 (White).
This guy's shift had ended (why he didn't have his uniform or name tag on).
