Just saw this. After reading the comments it appears no one has heard anything about this yet. Like the guy said, pretty weird timing, but maybe this is the cure for their problematic .586...?

I took the liberty of checking out the Platform number in the pic and it comes back as 5.0.0.586

Did you check that with your platform/OS checker?

Eeks, I haven't even upgraded to the .586 yet. I guess we'll all wait and see.

Screenshot is a photoshop fake. Wish it weren't so, but don't hold your breath waiting. It's been studied and disproved elsewhere.

even if this is a fake OS leaks are dropping like flies. OS 6 should be just around the corner if this keeps up.

Trusting FahCore, this seems to be a legitimate (if slowly rolled-out) silent update. The info listed-

    v5.0.0.714 (Platform 5.1.0.146)

-tells us that this is the .586 platform, with .714 Java files, customized by T-Mobile. Sort of like their own hybrid release, probably for carrier-specific bug fixes. I'm going to take a wild guess that this another attempt to solve the 3G issues that plague T-Mobile 9700 owners. It might even be only available within the areas where these problems are worst, so support agents can recommend this as a possible fix during complaint calls.

Still leaves me wondering why they 'shopped the posted pic. Is a real screenshot so hard to do? Thanks, FahCore, for the actual pic.

Now if only the rest of us could get this release...

    That's definitely a fake.

    I'm running .680 and have platform 5.1.0.160 - I don't think a carrier would release a hybrid...

They might. I use the term "hybrid" loosely, but that's essentially what it is. And I can see why they might decide to do so.

Supposing they actually realized what a huge flop (fix-wise) .586 was; they might want to have an actual / possible fix in the works as a solution for all the inevitable future complaint calls. Keep in mind, their release promised improvement- and from what I've heard, actually gave none. Thus, taking the already approved / tested / published .586 platform and updating some or all of the Java (operating system) files to the latest RIM versions has a sort of logic to it. Especially if, like this seems so far, it were rolled out only in certain problem areas and not publicized.

The alternative is that FahCore is a complete liar, and I'm not doing that kind of finger-pointing to a fellow Crackberry member and contributor without serious evidence

No carrier would EVER release a "hybrid" (loosely or not); for OBVIOUS reasons.

Well considering that of the 19 posts this CB member has, only two have to do with OSes and just about everything else is themes... I don't trust the source. But meh.

I just login to the Tmobile and the new software .714 was uploaded to the page..

I just downloaded the new software and will install at home later today.

I think that will be a good software.
