I did some checking and it looks like it will have 5.0 OS, however, it does have 256MB of app memory, which is what the 9700 has, so Im betting it will be OS 6 compatible.

You can download this File from T-Mobile Germany:

    9100_9105itutM_PBr5.0.0_rel1170_PL6.2.0.54_A5.0.0. 689.exe

Software Platform 6.2.0.54 and Applications: 5.0.0.689

If i understand this right it means it runs FW 6, but only with older Applications. Maybe there are no newer Applications at this Moment.

I hope i told here no crap.

Platform version is not OS version. That is still OS 5.

You can't get OS 6 anywhere yet.

But, it was already posted during WES that among the upcoming models, the 9100/9105 as well as the 9650 Bold will be compatible with OS 6.

    Hello joeldf,

    can you explain this pls?
I thought Platform is like Windows 7 and you use Microsoft Office XP as an Application. Hope you understand what i mean. Its not the best comparison. I know.

    What is the Software Platform?

    regards

It's confusing, but the best I can tell, the platform version numbers can run wildly different from the main OS version. For example, in my Pearl, the OS is 4.5, but the "platform" is 2.7. When someone asks which OS I'm running, I don't say 2.7, it's 4.5. The "platform" is the Java and radio code - base sub-system stuff like that - things that are likely specific to the phone model and it's hardware (and why my Pearl platform number is so low), while the applications (browser, calendar, the stuff you actually run) follow the main OS version number. Either way, the platform is still tied to the main OS, so it's the OS version number that counts.

With all the discussions about what OS 6 will do, it's never related to the "platform" version.

Whether this is accurate or not, I don't know, but I see the "platform version" as a hardware driver build number under the OS and why it's always the second group of numbers after the OS numbers.

Unless someone else can give a better explanation.

It seems like some apps are limited to certain platforms (or the other way around?). For example, I can't get Viigo to run on the Pearl 9100. Maybe I'm doing something wrong. I hope I am, otherwise it might be a while before the 9100 has full app support.

That makes sense if the Platform is the Core and the Applications the Programs like eMail...BBM..Calender...

And i dont know how many OS Versions RIM had at this Moment(3? and 6 is 4?). With Application Version 5 they upped the Platform Version to 5.

Fact is...nobody knows it. Would be great if someone can explain it, who knows it. Kevin help us!

    Edit:
Made a new Thread in the OS Forum:

Good idea with that new thread. I'd like to see a definitive answer on that too.
