Fellow boldies, I just thought I'd post an update about the latest OS for our phone since I didn't see too many conversations about this OS in here.

This is the OS you were waiting for, it holds onto memory longer and battery life is as good as I've seen it.

The last 5.0 all had issues in some form or another, this one finally solves it all. I've been using it for a week, and its like having a new phone agai.

As I type this I'm flipping between email, listening to music on my 4gb sd card and no pausing or stuterring, I also haven't restarted in a few days and my memory is at 27.5mb.

Pick this puppy up, I've used every OS since I bought this phone in 2008.

For reference I'm running the following apps:

    Google maps
    Facebook
    Google sync
    Poynt
    Twitter
    Berry weather
    The rogers my account app

Thanks for the post, I just downloaded it to take a leap into the world of 5.0 (I know, finally). Thanks for convincing me haha.

I have been using this OS for 3 days on my Bold 9000 now and I couldn't be happier. I have found no flaws at all and much better than the OS 4 that came with the phone.

No doubt. This is the 5.0 OS for the 9000 everyone has been waiting for. Nobody should be hanging back on 4.6 now (and certainly not because you are waiting for AT&T or Rogers to come out with an "official" 5.0 -- you will both win the lottery and get struck by lightning first).

Well maybe I will take my chances with the lottery

In all seriousness though, I might try it out. Depends on if I feel like it, really.

Best OS so far. Keyboard lock is back, as well as being able to delete e-mails from handheld & mailbox. I loved that feature, but lost it with the two previous builds. Much faster browser, and memory hasn't dropped below 28. Minor glitch for me with e-mail accounts, but sending service books to BB did the trick. They just keep getting better and better. Waiting for 5.1, 5.2, etc.

It's a darn stable OS, no doubt. .554 was slightly better for me though. The memory management on .554 on my phone was incredible. Battery was awesome too. I think memory and internet speed were slightly better on .554 than .681, ON MY PHONE. (I don't care about the App switcher bug while the browser is up. I never use it like that anyways)

Still, anyone waiting around to jump to 5.0, .681 is a winner.

I don't understand why there is a discrepancy in our phones. We have the same BB, from the same carrier. Other than the amount of apps loaded to the phone memory, everything should be about the same. Maybe where the phone was made has something to do with it. Mine was made in Mexico.

Other than keyboard lock coming back, what else is advantageous over .610? I ran .410 for quite awhile before upgrading to .610 and .610 is pretty dang good... It holds memory way better than .410.

Edit: at least it was .4 something - I can't remember anymore for sure.

Is it better then .592 by Azercell? Just installed .592 3 days ago, and so far loving OS 5.0. So much better then 4.6

I bit the bullet and installed 5.0 :P

I like it, definitely the actual look of it is impressive. The only thing I'm not too happy about is that the enhanced gmail plugin doesn't seem to work - but I think I have seen threads about that so I will look around to see if there is a solution...

Keyboard lock is not actually back, the icon is back but you still have to use the mute button to unlock. Also, the delete email from handheld and mailbox has always been there in every build that I've seen. Sometimes it may not have been the default but it was always an option.

If you're on .610, I see no reason to upgrade. .681 actually gives you a couple less MB of memory to start off with, and is not as good as .610 with management. I ran .610 for a month before upping to .681 for the past week and am seriously thinking of going back to .610. Not that .681 is bad, but .610 has a bit of an edge over .681 where memory is concerned.

It's funny to see how people have differing experiences with the same OS's.

.610 was the worst of the 5.0's for me.

I ended up with less than 10MB of memory after 24hrs, huge memory leaks.

agreed! my first post here. bought my bold 6 days ago (first BB). put .592 on over the weekend & love the IM style text setup & longer battery life.

But i'm still learning to use a blackberry & still figuring out how to set the phone up the way i like it. So is it worth starting over again?

For those with any problem with memory leaks give it a day or two and 4-5 battery pulls. Mine was dropping fairly quickly for the first 8 hours or so. After the 4th battery pull it seems to have calmed down. I have been at 21 mb for over 12 hours now.

I have tried sending service books and registering to the network.
My emails, bbm, msn and facebook are working just fine though!

I have tried contacting my service provider Orange in vain... these guys are just cluelss. they don't know where the problem is.

    any idea from you guys?
