I'm using 4.6.0.304 and my phone says no wireless updates available. I'm just curious if anyone is using a more recent one and how did they get it? My phone is so quirky so I'm wondering if an upgrade is possible now. Thanks

.304 is the latest oficial update available from AT&T. However if you do some reading in the Bold 9000 forum (sticky at the top of the forum), you will se the 5.0.0.592 is the latest "official" OS available from a carrier (not AT&T). It works great. Download the OS, search for and remove the vendor.xml file and go for an upgrade using Desktop Manager. Make sure you do a lot of reading and get your questions answered since if you call AT&T for support, they will tell you to put .304 back on it.

I'm actualy using Willyboy's 3.1 hybrid for the Bold 9000 and it is fantastic. I'm doing memory leak testing now since I believe I got a bad one (or two) in the mix.

The reason you are not showing a wireless update available is because .304 is the latest official AT&T OS, and only carrier specific OS upgrades can be done wirelessly. If you look at the first sticky post at the top of this forum you will see a link to the latest official OS for the Bold 9000 (5.0.0.592) along with the upgrade instructions. If you follow the instructions you should have no problem updating the OS. However, I would recommend doing a little research before jumping into it, just to make sure you are comfortable.

There is a lot of information on Crackberry about upgrading your OS. I suggest using the search function as opposed to posting questions. Otherwise you might get a lot of people ripping you for not searching.

    Good luck.

Edit: I just saw Networkguys response. We must have been typing at the exact sale time...LOL

Perhaps the majority of Bold users here on CB, but I doubt the majority of Bold users overall. Remember, there is a huge business user base. I know a lot of Bold users in my firm, but I am the only one who has 5.0. Probably most business users don't have even those minimal technical skills required to update, let alone the desire -- after all, 5.0 is not exactly a quantum leap from 4.6.

I personally recommend 5.0.0.554. It is the same platform as 5.0.0.592 but .554 will give you about 4-5MB more than .592 once installed on your phone. I saw no advantage to .592 at all.

Just read the first post in the thread about .592 .

Keep the instructions for future OS upgrades.

I posted the thread and the instructions on what to do to upgrade to a OS that is not from your carrier.

    Umm what you talking about????

No one has any issues with memory loss or drain.... never post about an OS sucks unless you have proof to verify your claims.

I suggest that you and everyone else REAS that entire thread before making such claims.

If you have the spare time, I'd recommend reinstalling it again or downgrading to .554.

When I installed .554 after downgrading from .592, my battery life was horrible. THat was strange because it was awesome when I first tried the OS when it leaked. So after one day, I wiped my phone and simply reloaded it again. Now my battery life is awesome again.

Things can easily change from one install to another, with the same OS. Don't be surprised to reload the same OS multiple times and have different results.

I'm now using 5.0.0.592. It's much faster than 5.0.0.509, and everything sounds clearer(bluetooth,speakerphone,etc.). Memory has greatly improved, from about 28mbs to over 40mbs. Couldn't get it installed properly until i got BBSAK. Works like a charm. People on these threads are very helpful, and all you really need is patience.

They (or at least blacklac above) obviously have the leaked version of .592, which robs you of around 5MB of post-restart memory. That's why I was making a big thing in the sticky about the "official" version of .592 not causing this problem -- there are a whole bunch of people with the leaked version of .592 who wouldn't normally consider moving to the "official" version because it's been drummed into their heads that there is no difference. Here, there is, and it's in the amount of memory you start off with.

I've tried most of the leaked 5.0's as well as quite a few hybrids. I'm now using Willyboy's 3.1 like networkguy. So far it is by far the best OS yet. Stable memory and excellent battery life. I suggest you read thru the threads in the beta and hybrid OS section.
