As you know the new OS is out with the much improved browser and such. Has sprint offered an authorized solution to upgrade the OS from them? I just wanted to make sure everything will function correctly. I couldn't find anything on their website about software updates.

Is there a general "check for updates" feature for the OS as well as BIS? I just want to make sure I'm up to date and can take advantage of the latest capabilities.

i believe the 4.3 os used on the cdma devices has the same capabilities as the 4.5 os for gsm...correct me if I'm wrong...

4.5 OS includes HTML email viewing, which I do not believe 4.3 includes.

I believe niubeav is correct. We'll all find out next weekend when the BIS server update happens.

Then again we might be wrong because 4.5 on the GSM is giving them video capabilities which we already have.

Hmmm, guess it's a wait and see game, just like the release of the sCurve!

Docs2Go and HTML email are two of the big things that 4.3 does not have.

There will be 4.5 released for the 8330. There is no release date. No one knows.

Thanks for all the info. Have any of you guys gone ahead and updated anyways? Any major problems? Do sprint nav, sprint tv, etc work okay? HTML email would be great (I don't want to use a third party app to read my mail).

There's really no point in risking installing the beta version of 4.5 when you already have nearly everything it can do anyway. Plus, HTML email support is a server side update which doesn't exist yet. Rumor has it that at the end of the month there are going to be server upgrades to fully support 4.5 whenever it is released officially.

I thought BES 4.1 SP5 was the version that supported HTML email and is out... not that I'd run unsupported software on my Pearl (at least not yet, it took a while on my Windows Mobile phone before I started playing with WM6 ).

BIS 2.5 is the consumer side update that will support HTNL email.

When the time comes, how do you upgrade to the 4.5? Sorry but I am new at this Blackberry stuff...

Download an exe package, run it, connect your phone, and run the Add/Remove programs part of the desktop software. That's it; it's painless.

I really wish there was a round about date to be expecting.

Either that or not know at all.
    These waiting games suck.

This weekend the BIS update should happen as Blackberry will be down for like 6-8 hours it says. Then hopefully 4.5 will appear soon too! And all will be well!

Sorry to be so dumb but are you saying that no sprint blackberry will work for those 8 hours? Also, will the update come automatically or will we have to go to the sprint site and download the update?
    06-27-08 04:45 AM
  20. sunkast's Avatar
It means data services may not be available during those 8 hours. The downtime is for an update to be applied to the servers.

You will still be able to use you BB as a phone, however, no web, no email, etc.

I'm thinking there may be a longer delay for us Sprint users to get 4.5 since there have been rumors that this update will finally allow us to habe MMS. Like I said...rumors!

Get the 4.5.0.33 beta for CDMA phones. Not sure if MMS is enabled now. I don't believe so. No HTML email either unless you're on BES.

Nice avatar. The old school logo is better though =). I grew up 10 minutes from the Ralph.

So if there is nothing new, why would I want the beta 4.5? Wouldn't it be wise just to leave it as is until the tested version comes out? Go Bills!
