hi there this is my first post so be gentle lol after following the guides within the forums on enabling uma on non orange handsets i am stuck .
I have unlocked t-mobile branded 9700 but when you try to access the engineering screen by pushing alt + shift and H i still get the help me screen
I have loaded the device with the latest official orange uk firmware

any help would be appreciated thank you in advance

To access the engineering screen, the phone has to be unbranded. There are ways to do this, but you stand a chance of turning your 9700 into a very expensive paperweight.

yes i have tried googling debranding for blackberry but so far i havent come across anything this is something i feel i could acomplish as i used to debrand and mod the firmware on previous handsets i have owned and sat on a samsung site as a moderator so if somebody could point me in the right direction i would be prepared to try this

You have loaded it with the normal firmware not the orange branded one. When installing the firmware it knows if its an orange handset or not and that is what dictates it putting the settings in for uma.

You need the keygen to get past the help screen onto the escreen
You need the uma settings to enter into the escreen to give you uma access.

If you do a search on my posts you will find i posted all the settings you need and have already got a couple people working in your situation. I have a generic version of the 9700 and had exactly the same problems initially that is how i got started trying to get access to the uma side of things

thank you for your help i do realise forums get bogged down with repetative questions and as a new member here i would not want to do this i will do a search as you suggest and hopefully i can fix this i had uma on my 8520 and it rocks lol i did load orange firmware the local orange shop have offered to download there settings off a bold to my laptop but thinking about it this will not fix anything as it will still be picked up as a t-mobile branded handset

The one thing you need to make sure is that you include the brackets in your software version. I posted a screen cap of my keygen showing how I fill out the form to get the number. I was playing with it last night, so I'm already in the escreen.

I won't bother with the rest of the instructions as they are available on the internet. Just a word of warning though, which I saw on the instructions I use: Playing with the settings in the escreen can brick your phone. Be careful!

    Enjoy!

Just to clarify, the phone does NOT need to be unbranded to access the Escreens. I have an AT&T branded and locked phone and can access the Escreens by generating myself a key and entering it.

Its down to firmware, the first ones could not change from 3g to uma only 2g to uma hence it worked fine for me at work as I had very bad 2g signal but at home where I have good 3g it would never change over.

If you want it to work faultlessly then lock it to 2g, or update firmware to the last couple 86 / 93 which seem to have cured the problem, 86 is better speech quality though.
