    I'm using .330 right now and tethering is an abysmal 300kbps maximum. That's on 3G, and that's unacceptable. Will new OS save me or must I defect to the vile ANDROID?

    No. Tethering is not affected by the BB OS. It is dependent on the connection,
    the strength of that connection and the actual hardware.

    While you may deride Android (senseless IMO) it may very well provide you
    better performance than what you are getting with your BB. Which seems
    "vile" now?

    My tethering speed is supremely better with my iPhone and E71x than my BB
    in the same location(s).

    I also tether with my 9700 when I travel. I use it with a new HP mini 2140 on the T-Mobile network. I don't use it that often but I live in the Boston area and my connection is great. I have never put a speed test to it but I am very happy with the results. I don't believe any Android phone would be faster.

    I am using Windows XP tether via bluetooth and speedtest.net says 350kbps, when I download a file I get maybe 70KBps. Is that normal? Would android be faster? A Sony TM506 dumbphone was much faster I know that. My signal strength is fine so any ideas on what I can do to speed this up?

    I don't buy that... No Edge will get you 500 kbps... And on other phones on Tmo (not 9700) was getting 900+ kbps...

    I and others get 900+ kbps tethering on T-Mobile, but not all the time. My average is more like 500 to 700 kbps. Seems like it depends on the network load since I get my best speeds early in the morning. Sometimes in mid day it can sink to 300 kbps or even less. I think the folks getting such low speeds either have a configuration problem or they are tethering in high traffic areas.

    I've been curious so I just did a speed test. Should be max speeds now at 2:44am. On T-Mobile 3G.

    Tethering to Mac via Bluetooth (using scripts): .60mbps DOWN, .07mbps UP, 164ms ping
    Tethering to Mac via Tether.app, bluetooth: .70mbps DOWN, .10mbps UP, 171ms ping

    Not terrible, but got much faster on AT&T. Granted, I probably paid more for 3 people on AT&T than I do on 5 with T-Mobile. Fast enough for periodic use.

    I use Windows 7 and tether through bluetooth. Currently running .656, but the OS build doesn't seem to matter. Here's a run from yesterday (as they say in disclaimers, results not typical -- I've had better than this, but it doesn't stay this high all day).

    70kBps = 70k Bytes per second = 70k x 8 bits per second = 560kbps.
