The aim app doesn't seem to show me as online when I log in

and when I try to IM myself from another sn i get:

Unable to send message: Not logged in

i've read a lot about this problem and i have the data plan but is the AIM app from RIM just messed up?

    and does it use data?

First, the AIM app is not from RIM so don't blame them please. Second, yes, AIM is NOT texting so it does use data.

RIMs AIM apps doesn't impress me too much. i can sign in ok but i get booted randomly every other day or so. Where did you download your current AIM app?

Try downloading it from BlackBerry App World: Check out AOL Instant Messenger! You can find it at BlackBerry App World - AOL Instant Messenger

Some others will come along to recommend other 3rd party messaging apps that are much better.

yup i downloaded from the blackberry app world

and i can log in fine and see all my buddies it's just that no one can see me online when i'm "available" on my phone

i deleted it and pulled my battery before installing it too

and changed the permissions to allowed
