- I've had my BB 9700 for just over a month now, without having any issues whatsoever with the handset, and recently my 9700 refuses to connect to my wireless network at home, it finds the network, acquires an IP address, and connection speed even displays the signal strength, but looking at the Wi-Fi diagnostics on the BB there seems to be a problem with the Infrastructure, it attempts to connect and continuously fails.
I have tried restarting the BB, and the router, this doesn't seem to solve the problem though.
Has anyone else had or heard of this issue before? And are there any solutions?
I am on T-Mobile and the BB is not unlocked or anything of that nature.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.Last edited by EssTee-; 03-22-10 at 02:35 PM.
03-22-10 02:30 PMLike 0 - Have you tried removing and readding the WiFI connection to your router on your BB itself? I have had issues like that but removing and readding seemed to resolve mine.03-22-10 04:17 PMLike 0
- I had this issue with Orange (UK) when I had the Bold 9000. Out of the box the phone worked, connected to Wi-Fi and the Wi-Fi logo glowed bright white. Then all of a sudden it stopped working and although it connected to Wi-Fi the logo stayed grey as the connection wasn't connecting to the BB infrastructure.
I had my issue resolved by calling Orange's customers services and asking them to transfer me to a different RIM relay and it's worked fine ever sine and now that I have the 9700 I also use my Wi-Fi at home for UMA as my signal is never great.
Good luck03-22-10 07:47 PMLike 0 - RIM has many different relays available to get your connection to their servers. Think of it like chosing a road to get you from A to B when there are different routes available.
If you call T-Mobile and ask to get put through the Blackberry support and explain your issue hopefully they will know the solution to the problem. However, don't be fobbed off if they tell you it can't be solved and asked them to change your RIM relay and hopefully once that's done you'll see the glowing white Wi-Fi light again.03-23-10 07:26 PMLike 0 - RIM has many different relays available to get your connection to their servers. Thank you for the response, I have tried this and it did not work.03-24-10 07:58 PMLike 0 - Just a thought....many "home" routers will only support up to 4 wifi devices at the same time. So if you have 4 laptops connected to your WIFI at home, you phone will not be able to connect.
"it finds the network, acquires an IP address, and ...." look at your device IP, is it consistent with your local network IP range? For example, if you pc is 192.168.1.100 then your device IP should be the exact same thing except for the last numbers, i.e. 192..168.1.101.Last edited by mikeyg164; 03-24-10 at 11:22 PM.
03-24-10 11:18 PMLike 0 - By the sound of it I think I am having a very similar problem as of the moment, the first error message I am getting is "failed to associate with the network" and failed to associate with the AP subsequently, however my device kept auto trying and eventually reaches Network Acquired status.
And it sounds exactly like what others have experienced, wifi is connected, but the icon is gray, and cannot do a single crap on my browser.
Go to the Wifi discussion forum section I have posted a full detail of my problem see if yours fit into it, then we are having the same problem.

I live in Saudi Arabia and I just bought the bb 9700 last night. i went through the whole wifi set up and phone set up. problem is the if the moblie network is connected and the wifi is connected it will not connect to the wifi in my home from my wifi router. It will always use edge or 3g to connect to the internet. so I turned the mobile connection off and it connects to the wifi but i loose my signal and everything, so then i can not send or recive text messages nor make or recieve calls. when i turn mobile connect back on it goes right to edge and wifi icon goes grey. I really hope i did not pay all this money for this phone and i have to pay to use the net cause i cant connect to wifi and and have a phone signal at the same time. PLEASE HELP! Im ready to return the phone.03-25-10 12:24 PMLike 0

what do u mean "if the mobile net work is connected and the WIFI is connected" "it will not connect to the home wifi".
So the wifi is connected and its not connected at the same time? WTF r u saying
u mean wifi is ENABLED and will NOT CONNECT to ur home wifi???03-25-10 12:59 PMLike 0 - yes im sorry I wasnt clear. yes both the wifi and the moblie networks are both on. wifi icon shows up on the home screen. Problem is if i connect to the net in my house it will not use the wifi in my home. It goes straight to edge or 3g. I can not configure it to connect to wifi.03-25-10 01:34 PMLike 0
- good question, noone answered that for me yet, i once asked that too....
but when you are on hotspot, for sure you are browsing through wifi.
but:
1. i don't even know why my connection sometimes switches between edge and 3G
2. i don't even know if the wifi preferred mobile network settings affects the browser setting for wifi.
3. noone even told me whats the relation between edge and uma
lol, but at least u got ur browser working fine.03-25-10 02:15 PMLike 0 - I'm not positive if I did.I saved google as my home page and when I bookmarked it it said I was using hotspotm then after a while I get this message saying I was just charged 80 cents. Why isn't there a way to disable the edge and 3g.my old phone was simple and I could turn the 3g and edge off.I just got rid of my nokia e75 because I had been wanting a bb for the longest. Now I'm regreting it because the Bb seem so complicatedm
Posted from my CrackBerry at wapforums.crackberry.com03-25-10 10:48 PMLike 0 - Best way to check is to tell your phone company to lock your data, so there's no way you can use 3G to browse internet, but that would be a problem if you want to use internet where theres no wifi.
But if you get charged for using data on a per-mb basis or you have no fixed fee in a month, you might as well just disable it in total or get a package plan.

Then you can still use your provider for voice and WiFi for data.
Let us know if it helps.
Posted from my CrackBerry at wapforums.crackberry.com03-26-10 09:21 AMLike 0 - Forgot to mention, *edge* means it is available but not being used. When data is used it will show *EDGE* .
I am in Jordan right now, roaming on UMNIAH with my AT&T SIM, I have my data turned off and posting with the free WiFi at the hotel.
Posted from my CrackBerry at wapforums.crackberry.com03-26-10 09:59 AMLike 0 - ok heres the problem because ofcourse im still having problems.
If i turn off the data services then i can not access the internet even through wifi.
Why is that?
Also i thought i had the net thing figured out because i set the brower and all the pages i visit to hotspot. But then after i close everything i will get a message saying my account was charged for something.
What am I paying for? Is something running that I dont know about?
Other question is i downloaded google apps for mobile like gmail and google web broswer. Am I paying for that?03-27-10 01:04 AMLike 0 - You are right, I just succeeded to replicate my wifi problem occured at school by turning off data service at home, Even if i am connected to the home router(at home screen it says Rogers - *****), wifi button is grayed out. I don't know why.
so charlyee, were u able to connect to wifi and still browse by turning off data service because you gave such an advice.
I think I figured out the next problem of yours, some applications you use will ONLY work through your data plan, so even if everything is set to hotspot they will still drain from your data plan so u get charged. Just my theory(because i heard a lot of apps that require net/data don't work on wifi), someone confirm please.
you are paying for the data being used... DUH
and if your app was downloaded thru wifi, u wont get charged, but if those appls continuously stream and draining ur data(if they dont drain thru wifi), u probably will be charged.

Am I paying for that?04-01-10 11:39 AMLike 0 - Yes, I was able to in all the hotels in Jordan, however I was not able to at the Amman airport it stayed greyed out. I don't know why though. Basically I had my Roaming Data turned off during the entire trip and only turned it on when I needed to access data at a non-WiFi location.04-01-10 04:41 PMLike 0
- By turning data service off I don't mean the roaming part, I mean turn off ENTIRE data service to off. Are you still able to browse through wifi after turned off all data service(if you can please try at home and see the result)? Because turning roaming data service off to me made no difference when I was on roam, to me it was a useless option and does not diagnose anything.(I was roaming with roaming data off and I entered the roaming zone for 10 minutes and it was still draining my data, will get more info on this after I get my bill this month).
If you encounter such a problem again(connected to router but wifi icon grayed out) please post wifi diagnostic status
