Totally agree on both counts!
I liked the 9000 in white when Rogers released it, so this appears to be along the same lines.

They've even made the screen surround white, which surprised me.

This was the exact BB my wife wanted.
We'll see what I have to deal with if Telus ever gets this...

I usually like the white version of any phone, only because it's different, usually comes out later, so not as many people have it, and is a clean look... but... I really do like the black one better (waiting for maine to arrive) after seeing one in person, and think it makes the screen jump out at you that much more. It won't get as dirty, and (girly moment: it will match all of my outfits).

It would look better if the trackpad was white, as well. A white Bold 9700 with a black trackpad = FAIL.

No, because we don't discriminate based on a smartphone's colour. Those days ended after the smartphone rainbow march in Washington. Remember, all 'Berries are the same colour on the INside.

Though my sister's looking for a Bold 2 too, I think White will serve its purpose in some circumstances. But I do like black as well... =)
