Think I'm sitting on the edge of 3G coverage in my home. Very early in the morning, around 2-4 am, I can get 4 bars of 3G, but any other time, it goes back to 5 bars of EDGE. Was looking at a few external home antennas, but am hesitant to spend $300 on something I don't know will boost the signal enough to get the 3G. Anyone use something like this? And if so, what company did you order from?
Live in a rural farm area, right in between 2 towns with very good 3G coverage, about 10 miles from both. In central Kentucky. My thought is that it should at least work outside the house if there's any hope for an antenna to work. Looking at one from Wilsons electronics.
The Wilson full kit will cost you over $600 for the parts (amp+antenna). If you purchase it then you should get a money back refund policy. Wilson 801105 Amplifier In-Building Repeater Kit by Wilson Electronics
The first thing to do is to ask your carrier (ATT) if they have any towers in your area under repair.
You should also ask them for a new SIM.
For radio signal, it is true however, nightime will likely have better service then daytime.
Just something to note about that though, it will only boost 850mhz because of the range and for 3G its 2100mhz so voice calls would do good but I don't think it would do anything to the data (3G) make note of that and you may not be able to buy a 3G booster like there are for voice because 3G data frequency is much higher >1,000mhz
If you're on ATT and you have ATT Uverse as your internet carrier, you can get a very cheap ($50 one-time fee) micro cell. This hooks up to your ATT DSL modem and provides a 3G signal with around a 500 foot radius. Principle is you now have a perfect cell tower just for your house!!
