I don't think that they got rid of the 8900, they are still offering the older series such as the 83xx, and the pearls, they may just not have them in the website right now. Just cant believe they would leave the older Berries for sale and do away with the 8900, maybe I'll give them a call tomorrow and see what they have to say if someone here hasn't already..

There was a longer thread about this just the other day.
Seems kind of odd to only have a low end BB's (81xx-83xx & 8520) and the highest (9700) available. But they are already discounting the 9700 so much (with contract) that the 8900 didn't really fit in the pricing scheme when you think about it. Now it's pretty much:
    Cheap and no 3g = old BB's and 8520
    3g = 9700

I would assume the 8520 will replace the older BB models soon since RIM apparently really wants the trackpads out there at his point.

I've had my 8900 since the week that T-Mo released it in their stores, and it's still like new. With the latest 5.0 OS installed, it *feels* like a new BB too. Runs perfectly, still fun -- best mobile device I've had to date (and I've owned MANY in the past 18 years!).

I'd consider a 9700 to get 3G, but not sure that's enough of an upgrade to warrant the cost right now -- still pondering. Keep wondering what new device will catch my interest enough to make me want to switch. Maybe something on the order of a full touchscreen with a slide out keyboard -- just don't know at this point. I'm finding Android phones intriguing, but not enough yet to walk away from the total BB experience -- especially since I'd also have to give up UMA which has been a superb feature for me.

Ah well... will watch the market and see. In the meantime, still love my 8900...

I got my T-Mobile 8900 for the $.01 Amazon.com deal (Check these out if you haven't!) and then argued my way out of the $200 ETF just this last month due lack of service at my new home, so this phone's basically been the deal of all deals for me. I could still probably Craigslist it for a solid couple hundred bucks too if I felt like it, but I haven't seen anything come out lately, Blackberry or otherwise, that's got me tempted enough to jump back into a contract with anyone

    Okay.. here's my theory....

Current BB8900 users love it so much that they told everyone and now they are "SOLD OUT!" and BB cant afford to make anymore. So sorry to all the people who cant get one.

the phone is discontinued because of the soon to be released 8910 which has the trackpad probably because of the constant complaints about the trackball getting stuck like how my replacement phone is right now.

Funny thing is if you go to T-Mobile UK it is still being offered out in the UK, I think only TMO USA is the only one who discontinued it, but they also have the Storm 2 in the UK too.

well, i just got my Curve 8900 yesterday at a T-Mobile DEALER.... He cancelled my Sprint service (don't have to pay Termination Fees - he's got an inside guy there), he gave me Body Glove case, and a car charger too. I paid outright, a lot cheaper down the line, and not locked into a 2 year contract.

See if there is an actual DEALER near you. call around first to save you time! I've been to other stores, I never seen this model there. I originally wanted to get the Bold, but he said this is just as good. (plus he has one) so i figured I'd save the extra $100.

Does this mean they'll won't be upgrading support to the 5.x OS? Website still only has v4.6.231 as the latest.

Yeah, probably no official OS 5 update from T-Mobile.

However, when I had the 8900, I was able to upgrade to OS 5 because other carriers are still offering the 8900 with official OS 5 upgrades. As long as you delete the vender file, it works great. You may want to try this. I used Vodafone but I don't think it really matters what you use.

Do you know if deleting the vendor file works with the Mac desktop manager?

Read post #14. I did upgrade to the 8900 AFTER it was taken off the website. Cost me 28.88 at Wal-Mart!

Retail stores are just dumping their inventory, then.

AT&T has no announced plans to drop any currently available BlackBerry phones.

Though it sickens me that people would think that getting an 83XX or 81XX series BlackBerry is a good idea with the 89XX and 9XXX options available.

I just got a replacement 8900. Trackball lasted me 10 months before it wouldn't click anymore. Replacement is working great so far. Honestly, I'm not sure how I feel about the trackpad. When I get back to the states I'll have to check it out.

I believe tmobile decided to discontinue it because of the trackball problem. The original curve series had a problem collecting dust and lint under the trackball and the 8900 and curve was suppose to correct that problem. However, I think the design on the tour and javelin was worst because I am on my 4th 8900 due to trackball failing.

Still waiting for replacement and was told it was on backorder. Hopefully they have no more in stock and just replace it with a 9700 to avoid the hassle on replacing another 8900 due to trackball failure.

I keep my blackberry in pristine condition. Screen protector, casing, and clean hands. The trackball doesn't seem to be durable enough for everyday use. I have experienced why RIM decided to scrap the trackball design all together. Goodbye 8900, you were great when you worked.
