So I have had my 9700 for about a month coming from an iPhone 3gs WHICH I miss parts of it... Hate me you will... but something the iPhone does right
Don't get me wrong I love my 9700
I'v noticed a lot of threads / posts on new OS's
I havnt upgraded from v5.0.0.405 the new one being v5.0.0.442
Honestly is it worth the hassle? and the hour or two it takes? I hate even changing themes because it resets all my icons...
So at what point do you upgrade?
v5.0.0.xxx ?
v5.0.xxx.0?
v5.xxx.0.0?
vxxx.0.0.0?
Also anyone know where I can find a change-log on these releases?
Well its like this, don't fix it if it aint broke you gain nothing. Unless a new build features something completely new. then yes by all means upgrade. Plus it doesnt take 2 hours to update and you wont lose anything that is you backup and just update. Unless you have signal problems or some sort of software problems then update. And see if it will help.
An actual change log would be great, but I think RIM doesn't release them. Please correct me if I'm wrong and tell me where to get them...
I don't mind the upgrading process, I only hate that all my "mycart!" lists get deleted each time and I always have to start from scratch, which is pretty annoying. Anyone a fix for that?

Do the update man. Your themes are not lost if you backup. You said you've had the 9700 for a month...I've had it for 2 months and I downloaded about 12 apps, 388 e-mail messages, 9 themes, took about 200 photos (superfine images)... and the whole process took me 28 minutes. (including backup).
Think it like an insurance policy. If you scrw up while doing it, you're backed up.
But if you don't update and some sick app stalls your device you're gonna get the RLUSS. You really wanna avoid the RLUSS...I'm telling you
Thanks for the input, if I get bored enough today I think Ill do it! haha
Also what is the difference between the release stickied and a hybrid OS? What are the two components of this hybrid OS?
im running .296 straight out of the box on my 9700. Its fast, no memory leaks, tons of app memory, no sms bug-why do I need to upgrade, its running better than any berry Ive owned. For me, Im leaving well enough alone.
I updated my 4.6 OS to the 5.0 OS and it is great! I love all of the new menus, the transitions and the pictures all load in seconds. I would only upgrade at major milestone releases. You already have 5.0 so I guess you will have to wait for whatever the new one is.

I'm still running the 5.0.0.330 that came with my phone. It works great for me. I'll update if some major changes come out. Otherwise I'm with the if it aint broke don't fix it crowd.
For most of the year I was running 4.6.231 official tmobile. Tried 5.0 version .348 but was extremely laggy on my 8900. 5.0.411 came out and decided to give it a try and is a very solid build.
Turns out it became an official version on some carriers. 5.0 is much faster and snappier compared to 4.6. The lag when viewing pictures disappeared and memory management is much better. Plus boot time is much faster too.
5.0 actually made me stick with the 8900 instead of upgrading to the 9700. Great upgrade indeed.

For me, it's any and every time a new one is found. If you don't like it, you can always go back. I find the whole upgrade process exciting. I think that's somehow sad.
Honestly speaking... I upgrade my fone for the simple reason that I like having the latest OS... The only 2 benefits I have had with the OS 5 upgrade us the battery life and the option to Vibrate and ring at the same time... That is something the OS 4.6 didn't offer me to be honest.
Most people on Crackberry download the OSs just to see what's new really...
