Help Plz: New BB 8320: Stuck on "verifying security software"
- I bought a BB Curve yesterday and it locked up. Got stuck on "Verifying Security Software" after I tried connecting to my wi fi. So, T-mobile replaced the phone. Today, I came up, tried to connect to my wi fi connection and now it's doing the same thing, it just keeps rebooting, sits on the hour glass for a couple minutes, goes through the 'verifying security update' and repeats the process. It's been doing this for 3 hours
I've turned it off a few times. And I've also tried to taking out the battery and sim, same thing.
Is there a solution, or have I now gotten two lemons.Last edited by dcrats; 06-04-08 at 07:39 PM. Reason: Left out a bit of information
06-04-08 07:37 PMLike 0 - Have you tried a battery pull? That fixes a lot of issues. Does this happen right as you turn on the phone or only when you connect to wifi? Sorry I don't have any experience with wifi since my 8330 doesn't have it. If it only happens when connecting to wifi maybe you can try going someplace that's not a hotspot so it doesn't try to connect and check your settings. Hopefully someone with more knowledge about wifi on a berry can chime in here soon!
Semper Fi,

You'll find this fixes all kinds of things06-04-08 07:51 PMLike 0 - Okay, first, I went to the T-mobile store after it crashed the first time, and they gave me a new phone - claiming it was a freak lemon. Last night a friend from London showed me how to do a hard reset, so I can at least use it as a phone now and get emails. However, the WiFi still doesn't work. Have others have problems with the WiFi working on the curve?06-05-08 11:33 AMLike 0
- No problems, works fine for me. WiFi must be turned on, of course. Make certain you have a data plan or hotspot@home service (it comes with the dataplan in the US, but not sure about others.)
I'm using it at home with a linksys and a Belkin wireless router. No problems.
My son is using hotspot@home in Cambodia but not with a BB. The only problem he had was that t-mobile had to enable a free service called world roaming.
t-mobile should be able to identify what the problem is from their end.
I've had the bb freeze a couple of times running iskoot (for skype), and had to pull the battery. But that freed the processor and it came up okay.06-05-08 11:42 AMLike 0 - i have the exact same problem on my new curve I just got from tmo. as soon as i turn wifi on the bb its starts on the reset loop and the only way to stop it is to unplug my router and the curve moves past the verifying security part. I go back and remove the wifi to off on the curve and it comes back to normal. I do not know how to fix it and ill be talking to tmo to see if they can have an answer otherwise i will return it within my trial time. I have the data plan and hotspot also.07-05-08 12:07 AMLike 0
- I've actually never had this problem and I have wifi on as we speak. That's kinda weird that would happen to you. Maybe try an OS reinstall because chances are there could be something wrong in the OS who knows?
But are you sure the battery pull didn't do a thing? And is wifi on the second the phone itself turns on or do you set it to be on at a later time?

(Make sure to do a backup if you decide to take this route or all the info you do have on it at this point in time will be lost.)

For example I personally have the mobile network on when the phone turns on then I manually turn on the wifi signal through the manage connections icon.

i've always wondered if that would happen07-05-08 02:15 PMLike 0 - I'm a complete Blackberry newbie that still hasn't been able to get his BB working. I have spent about 12 hours reading threads on multiple subjects and I know BB is the way to go.
**INTRO:
I am an AT&T customer that just bought an 8320 Curve (T-Mobile phone) on Ebay unlocked. I concluded that the WI-FI functionality would be nice to have and use. I would like the Bold but I cant wait until RIMM decides to release this summer.
**1ST Nightmare :
The powerseller accidently sent it to me locked so I had to figure out how to unlock it. 1st nightmare is done [please dont reply about Unlocking 101; there are excessive amount of posts on this subject]. I am absolutely positive this has now successfully happened.
HINT: T-Mobile Blackberry support is extremely helpful even when youre considering becoming a client/BB user. You guys are awesome. No, I cant return the wretched thing. I thought this completed task should be provided for full disclosure.
**2nd Nightmare :
This thing is more unstable than weapons~grade~plutonium. It keeps crashing constantly and going back to T-Mobile to replace the phone is not an option. The only way to stop this is to go to Managed Connections and turn everything off. Once the phone does NOT look for any signals it will not crash. If I only turn on the Mobile Network, I can dial a phone number in the 10 seconds before the crash, I am able to talk on the phone calmly. As soon as I am done it starts its vicious rebooting cycle. At this point, I still have WI-FI and Bluetooth turned OFF.
BATTERY PULLS do not work because the problem lies within the WI-FI / Mobile Network in trying to find signal. Maybe the Signal-locating firmware is buggy. I have done a clean wipe twice and removed any 3rd Party apps that may have existed. I do not have any SD memory cards placed inside this thing. I have attempted to remove any variables that may crash the OS to the best of my knowledge.
**Current Working Solution:
Just installed the Desktop Manager 4.3 and I want re-install the OS. I currently have version 4.2.2.180 (Platform 2.5.36). I dont want any Beta OS, but rather the best OS version recommended by all of you for the Curve 8320.
**PLEASE HELP :
~Any OS Curve 8320 suggestions with links (please refer to a thread or give me a version)?
~What other hard/master resets can I do to this thing besides the Wipe under Security Options?
~Best practices of clean re-installs would be greatly appreciated?
I apologize for reproducing this topic but I havent found a decent thread. I also thought this may provide more insight to the problem-free users out there that are nice trying to help. I will post results of my endeavor in the next few weekends. Thanks07-05-08 06:16 PMLike 0 - After finding the following thread, I decided to go for the .184 version:
~~~//forums.crackberry.com/f52/newest-8320-os-v4-2-2-184-a-18385/~~~
As for best practices of installation, posts were vague or written with assumptions that implied I knew how Desktop manager 4.3 worked. Thanks for reading and stay tuned for my success post (hopefully this phone works).07-05-08 08:28 PMLike 0 - It's attempting to get on a WiFi Signal (Probably a Belkins G+). I had a similar problem until I shut the wifi siganl off and deleeted the connection. For some reason BBs don't play well with Belkin routers.07-05-08 10:25 PMLike 0
- Daaaannnnnggg.
My suggestion to you would be to return that phone to the seller because when you buy on eBay, chances are there is going to be something wrong with the product. After that's done spend the money elsewhere. Maybe looking on a site that carries the unlocked 8320 your looking for (I'm not near my computer at the moment or I'd provide you with some links.)
Its very odd that your having these issues because the belkin router your using, I connect to problem free as well has H@H.
If your tried OS installs and wipes etc then return it. That's really the best advice I could give you.
I just got my BB and I love it and the wifi function is very useful once you can actually use it.
Posted from my CrackBerry at wapforums.crackberry.com07-06-08 12:20 PMLike 0 - Reed McLayRetired ModeratorThe first thing to check is your router.
Wifi has been through several upgrades and the newer routers are using 802.11n specs. BlackBerry use the 802.11g spec.
Unfortunatly, they are not interchangeable. The simple work around is to use an older G router, like the T-Mobile supplied Linksys.08-19-08 10:41 AMLike 0 - I just bought a new linksys wrt110. I have had my bb 8320 for about a year and I just went through the reboot from ****. I did not connect it to my router until after I did a full software reinstall with tmob bb support. After losing all of my contacts, texts, among other things. They had me convinced that it was corrupt software mysteriously affecting my phone. I went about trying to restore my bb to pre crash condition, of which I am still not there yet. I turned my wifi on and it started all over again. I took my wife’s bb 8320 and enabled wifi and hers began to do the reboot of death. If you are willing to take a hit on your home network you can dumb your router down to "B" 11 mbps and every thing will be ok, or just remember to turn off wifi before you get home. I really hope that hotspots don't get the reboot router of death in the future, or they send a fix for all of our phones. Just remember though it is nice to get a new phone make sure it is not a black hole in your home. Check the router before you smash your phone into little bb bits.09-04-08 11:12 PMLike 0
...
Turns out, they keep a file drawer full of replacement phones for just that purpose.
Odds are good, future OS versions will support 802.11n, but for now, it is a Black Hole.09-04-08 11:33 PMLike 0
