I will admit, I have never gotten the Blackberry bug out of my system, and two iPhones (a 3G when it was release, and again with a 3GS when it was released) later, I am considering another blackberry.

I love browsing on the iPhone, but being in law school I find that i simply don't have time for all the apps and time-wasting functionality. I always found my bold to be a more useful tool.

If anyone has experience with the transition from an iPhone to a 9700 I'd appreciate your feedback. I did use the phone in an AT&T store and the new trackpad seems very cool compared with the old trackballs.

    Thank you.

If you're already considering going back to the BlackBerry and you loved the 9000, the 9700 is just so much better. In every way..

You have had the 9000 about the only difference is that the 9700 has better battery, more application memory, and the OS is faster.

Clearly you will get plenty telling you to switch back on this site.

lol, I'm in the same boat ...Listen to this, I bought an original iphone, got tired of that after 6 months, bought a BB Bold 9000 and loved it, got tired of that after 9 months, bought a iphone 3GS, got tired of that after 3 months. I just got a BB 9700 Dec 1, switched back to the iphone 3gs Jan 2nd and WILL switch back the the 9700 in about a week. Both phones are great at what they do and I have to stop the switching madness !! I will probably stick with the 9700 and use the iphone as a ipod for the car....lol

My daughter got an iphone for Christmas and its a sharp looking phone but for the life of me I can't figure out how the heck anyone can type on the thing! I'm glad she got it though because now I know for sure that I made the right choice going with BlackBerry and the 9700. I'll never own anything else! That's my opinion though and you are the one that has to decide what you like best! =)

LOL...same here too. Except for me, stick an 8900 in there between the 9000 and the 3GS. I love technology, and for me, I'll probably always want something new. But, in the end, I always come back to the Blackberry, because it's like "Crackberry" right? Anyway, I have MobileMe for my iPhones and it doesn't even come close to the speed and convenience of the BB email and BBM. I would get mad seeing the rotating timer in the email program on the iPhone, and I didn't even have any emails in there. Deleting an email became a one minute process as I had to 1) wait for the email program to check if I had any new emails, 2) swipe the topic to mark for deletion, 3) hit delete, 4) exit the inbox and go to the trash, 5) wait for the trash box to sync, 6) swipe the topic to mark for real deletion, 7) then wait for the trash box to sync the empty trash...and in the end, YOU COULD STILL FIND THE DELETED EMAILS WITH SPOTLIGHT! WTF is that? I mean, how secure is that? On the BB, I just scroll to the email, hit the delete key, because God knows I don't need Viagra (spam), scroll to delete in mail and handheld, and I'm done. Looooove that.

I had the 9000, the Iphone 3GS, and now I have the 9700. I have to say that the Iphone was a monster device. I don't think there is a device out there that provides more entertainment than the Iphone. My two Bolds are great messaging devices. When it comes to messaging, there isn't a better device out there. I like how productive I
am with blackberrys. The Iphone can do just about the same things along the lines of productivity, but no one buys an Iphone for that, you buy an Iphone for fun. I found myself becoming less productive but more engaged with the device. I never wanted to put my Iphone down. If I knew then what I know now, I would have kept my 9000 instead of getting an Iphone. But I don't regret it because now I have a 9700. Its like the original, but more refined.

Best thing I can use as an analogy is imagine the old ep with the k20a3 and swapping a k20a. Same Honda quality just faster.

Seriously though, the device is smaller than the 9000, keyboard is equally easy to type on, trackpad is a nice new feature, better battery, better camera...

Look, I can't talk about my iphone experiences except for the one's my friends have owned and I've played with...I've been a crackberry user since the 7100t, then the 8100 pearl, then the 8320 Curve (incredible phone, just not enough mem) and now, the pinnacle of all Blackberry phones, the 9700! It's incredibly fast, very sleek and responsive. I was worried I wouldn't like the track pad, I do very much...the apps that are coming out right now are coming out quickly and real good stuff too like POYNT. Great phone all around for all the reasons listed here, sound quality is great, speakerphone, bluetooth all sound great. Looks very very clean, plenty of mem to run your apps, games, Documents 2go and TEXT AND EMAIL like mad!! You won't be sorry!

everyone list the pros and no cons...so i will go ahead and list some cons on the 9700:

    1. 9700 only has 256 mb of onboard memory and u can't install 3rd party apps on a sd card.
    2. if u dont have bb data plan, some 3rd apps dont work with the 9700 like aim, msn, yahoo im, google maps, jmirc, push email, etc.
    3. screen isn't as big compare to the iphone

    1. Unless you somehow have a need for 100+ apps, I can't fathom a need to put them on the sd card.
    2. Not having a bb data plan and owning a bb? What's the point of having a bb?
    3. Very astute observation.

    1) 256 MB of app space is more than enough. I have over 15 apps installed. and still have 100 MB free.

    2) an iphone still requires a data plan that costs $30.00 per month just like the blackberry

    3) imagine that. but the resolution of the 9700 is fantastic. 480x360 where as the larger screen iphone 3gs is 480x320. So you can actually have more screen information on the blackberry than the iphone.

Please get your facts in order before posting

here are some actual cons of this phone though:

    1) no motion sensing so you cannot move the device around to control a game or whatever like the iphone.

    2) no open GL support for beautiful 3d apps.

    3) most applications are not the best looking but they are simple and get the job done in less time than the iphone.

Im sure there are more cons to the 9700 but those are probably the main thing

remember bill gates statement "no one will need more than 256k ram?"

256 MB is not enough...trust me.

also all the existing browser on the 9700: bbrowser, opera, bolt dont support flash.
