Have you tried letting your bb capitalize the word then delete it and retyping it? I just tried it on my 9530 and if you type the word and delete it then retype it the first letter is not capitalized.

You can turn autocorrect off in the input settings. However, I'm sure you use many of the other features autocorrect offers. So the best way to type the letter, hit delete, and retype it as mentioned above.

Thanks for all the advices. I once owned a bb 8320 and had the same issue. I thought the new OS would have an option for it. Oh well...

I have no interest in poor grammar and NOT capitalizing, but tried your "tip" anyway out of curiosity. It didn't work on my 9700. What device do you have where this works?

Press ALT then Right SHIFT for Caps Lock. Also holding down a letter for a second makes it capital.

    ALT+L.SHIFT is Number Lock.

I never knew capitalizing the first letter in a sentence was an "issue". We should sticky this as the "proper grammar bug"

didn't know people are so sensitive around here.
not wanting the 1st letter to capitalize is a preference for me.

I have Autocorrect turned on. Yes, in most cases, the first letter is capitalized but, with email addresses, once I have corrected it with the lower case letter, the Autocorrect displays both versions, capitalized and lower case.

The only time I have a problem is starting a sentence with an user name that is not capitalized, mine for one. I have gone into the habit of delete and retype.

For the majority of times I am glad it does capitalize, I came from WM phones that do it as well.

This can be a 'pain' at times when typing a case-sensitive user ID.

The majority of the time, I'm fine with it!

I for one normally use all caps except around those who insist they are Emily Post. I used a teletype machine for many many years and before someone starts on internet protocal, Internet started on teletype in all caps. At my age, I can read them much easier.
