To put it quite simply, this OS is stable enough to go official. I think more likely we'll see a .42x leak go official, but this one is darn close.

Perfect other than they removed the media home icon which was a convenient way to organize your media in one spot...

This happened on a previous Storm release. For that one you were able to create a new folder, name it media, and in the icon choices is the media folder icon. So it didn't go away, but was just more hidden, I dont' know why it happened like that. Strange?

I always thought .230 and associated hybrids were 2nd rate, but it's all we had... this one's good enough to be official.

i went back to .230 w/ hybrid v7.11. i lost my Y! icon (not my email) and i kept getting the blackberry registration email on every single reboot. i know to others this might be small, but i really had no issues what so ever on the hybrid v7.11. so i went back to it and my phone is back to the way it was.

Seems pretty damn good right now....good enough to go official I think. Wayyyy better than .230 but I'm stress testing the memory leakage at the moment. I've lost bout 7MB of memory in alil over an hour but I also have 11 apps running in the backround :-) (Like I said, stress testing it) Gonna reboot in bout 20 minutes and see what happens.

Alright...stress test #1 on memory leak is done.

Started @ 7:03pm, ended @ 8:33pm. In an hour and a half, I went from 107.6 MB free to 97.6 MB free (-10 MB) with 11 apps running in the background. Apps running were:

BerryWeather, Facebook, Home, Mobile Checkbook, Clock, Windows Live, Camera, Browser, App World, BBM, SMS/MMS

Did battery pull and rebooted....at 8:39pm, memory was at 108.0 MB. This go round, I'm only gonna have FB and BerryWeather running in the backround...other than the normal stuff (phone, messages, browser etc.)

Will give you another update around 9:45pm

Restarts faster and overall seems more stable, but I'm having an issue with a few videos that worked in previous versions. Specifically the file is in .avi format and for some reason I can only get audio to work. Anyone know of a good alternate media player that I can use until they fix this?

    Alrighty then...memory leak test #2

    8:39pm = 108.0 MB
    9:39pm = 107.7 MB

0.3 MB leak in an hour

Apps running: Facebook, BerryWeather, SMS/MMS, Browser
Moderate use of FB and SMS during that hour.

Gonna do a battery pull, reboot and see what happens overnight but looks like after the inital pull, it may not be leaking as much. Lets hope because it's a great build!!

I would think that the caching of images and updated statuses from moderate facebook usage combined with the added spaced taken up by a few texts could account for the 300kb thats missing. I really don't think that's an issue.

I was one of those that was holding out for an official carrier approved OS 5, but I finally gave up after reading Kevin's writeup on why it's taking so long. I figured most of the other device builds (some of them official) were at .4xx, so this one couldn't be that far off.

Glad I made the jump. Haven't had too many problems - lost a few apps and BBM during the upgrade, nothing re-downloading couldn't fix. So far so good...phone is definately snappier, and my GPS finally works with Google Maps. Just gotta keep an eye on the battery life and memory leak over the next few days.

how do you check how much faster the battery/memory runs out on this one than the previous one?

btw does anyone have screenshots of this new .419 or is it the same looking as the 4.7?

They look different, 5.0 has a different theme to it. Battery discharge and memory drain is measured by an app called meterberry, or just a pad of paper and remembering to check every hour
