I've tried so many I made in Hungary and all aveevano some problems! Lock & Mute keys different pressure, trackpad wobble, I was very disappointed with the build quality of 9700
I got mine from tmo and it is from canada. My first two were from mexico and were not good at all, major defects. All 9 of my 8900s were made in mexico as well and all nine had trackball problems.
Mine was made in Canada and is great! The 3 storm 2 I had were made in Mexico and were horrible! Hence now on a Bold 9700. Actually I tried the iPhone 3G(s) for 12 days and just couldn't do it. To familiar with RIM products/platform not knocking the iPhone.
I can tell you mine is made in Canada and is perfect. I believe the Canadian made units are better quality. Where is Rim's headquarters? Canada. Maybe thats why.

Same here, mine is made in Canada and has
been solid since day one...
The one I got was a build date 12/7/09 in Canada and it had some pretty noticably bad build quality...warped silver bezel, cruchy "End" key, loose "AT&T" trim piece at the bottom, tons of light bleed off the side of the screen.
Every BB ive had after the Bold 9000 has been a step down in quality. The 8900 only slightly so, but the 9700 was definitely a disappointment
My Canadian 9700 is pretty well done, I do have a little bit of a loose bottom piece (which I'm going to replace anyway) and I do get the slightest, smallest bit of bezel squeak if I put pressure on the "P" side of the bezel area.
I'd say that, for the most part, when it comes to device quality, Canada is the best, Followed by Hungary, and then Mexico. Some people may have some good Mexico devices, and some people my have some bad Canada devices, but in the majority, Canada is best, Mexico is worst.
The build quality is the ONLY reason I returned my FOURTH 9700 and went back to my high quality build Bold 9000. Hope the Dakota doesn't suck in that department!

^That's supposed to happen. The camera button is a two stage button. It's for autofocusing, much like a digital camera.
And once again: Location or build date has absolutely nothing to do with build quality. It's a crap shoot regardless. That being said, a lot of the build quality "issues" I've read about here are users being nitpicky.
No issues with mine. Mexico 4, built on 12/18/09. I wasn't happy with the trackpad clearance so I fixed it.
