Expecting my 9700 just any day now. Once I get it, I'm gonna pop my tmobile sim card from my 8310 to the 9700. The tmobile sim card doesn't say 3g or anything. So how do I know it is 3g or not? Thx in advance.

It will have a 3g logo on it.
Looks like a fireball with "3G" in the center.

all depends on the carrier, my SIM card doesnt have anything on it, toss it in and see if 3G comes up on the phone if not call the carrier

I have T-Mobile & I've been using the same sim card for 4.5 years. When I got my first 3G capable device, my old sim card worked just fine.

Yes I know curve is only EDGE. But I unlock my 8310 which was on at&t and remember having a sim card from at&t that has "3g" on it. At&t told me they had older sim card and has replaced all the newer sim card with 3g.

So anyway, I switch over to tmobile last year, they gave me their sim card. But it doesn't have any "3g" word on the sim card or anything. So just wondering if my tmobile sim card is the older version or not.

Exactly... if your phone is 3G capable, you're good.

actually... A SIM card isnt just a SIM card, there are difference generations of the SIM cards... the newer ones can handle the 3G network, the older ones cannot... i dont know what the time limit is on this, like any card over 5 years old will not work, this i dont know. But i know for a fact that if you are getting a new 3G device and your SIM card is older then 2-3 years old, i would switch to the SIM card in the box that came with your device... imo its like preventative measures if something goes funky (like connectivity). The SIM card is normally the LAST thing a carrier will look at as something wrong...

    catch my drift here?

I used my sim card from my 8900 right in my 9700 and no issues with 3G. Now the sim card isnt old, only about 6 months, so that maybe it.

Like C86 said, if its new you are prob good, if not then you might want to think about asking for a new one.

Check and see when the phone comes in.

You're very correct, 3G connectivity isn't SIM card dependent.

I'm with TMO and went from the 8320 to the 9700 and used the same sim card that came with the 8320 2 years ago. The 8320 isn't 3G and the phone works just fine.

This may be true for your carrier, but not T-Mobile. Again, I'm using a 4.5 year old T-Mobile sim card and have had no problems @ all using it in my 9700. Also, T-Mobile is VERY quick to suggest getting a new sim card if the usual troubleshooting steps don't work right away.

Edited to add: I've also used my sim card in devices from one (very) dumb phone, 3 different variations of Sidekicks, & now my 9700. Again, it works perfectly in my 9700.

I have had my sim card for about 5 years now, and when I switched from a old phone to my BB 9000 I just poped my sim card and works fine on 3G, and this is with Rogers in Canada. No 3G logo or anything on it, works great no issues here.
