Try unhiding all your icons and make sure you check instant message folder.

Mine vanished too when I installed it, I just did a soft reboot (alt+"right"shift+del). It did it one other time and I went to bbAppWorld, and under "My World" I ran it ran it from there and it re-appeared.

I am new too, so take with a gain of salt. GL.

Thats a very OLD OS version .... I strongly recommend upgrading the OS to a newer version.

May be the new BBM is not compatible with your OS version... Im not sure though ...

Try removing BB Messenger from Applications - and download it again by pointing your BB browser to BlackBerry Wallpapers, Ringtones, and More

OS 5.0 is not official yet... Them all are leaked os's... If you are not familiar with upgrading the OS, I recommend upgrading to the latest os released by your carrier.

    Are you with Orange UK?

I have att, and under "advanced options" at the bottom is "wireless update", can't she just do that and then re-install the BBM?

Newbie but seem logical... But again, Newbie.

You can download it from here : https://www.blackberry.com/Downloads...223C61B1B5AB89

    - Backup the device data using Desktop Manager
    - Download and Install the OS on PC
    - Delete vendor.xml file (C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\AppLoader) * You do not have to do this step as you are loading your carrier approved OS.

Note: Loader.exe can be found at the same location as vendor.xml file

You should have something official to update to using the wireless update.
You do need to be on at least 4.7 for the new bbm to work. Redownloading it without updating the OS will give the same results.

You cannot go wrong if you follow the steps listed in the other post. Dont have to use DM to upgrade the OS. Try using apploader (loader.exe) and see whether it initiates the process ...
