Hey guys, terribly sorry to repost something like this but I just wanted to know what you guys think of the 9700's keyboard. I was planning to buy this but after visiting the store I tried typing on the keyboard and it was just wayyyyyyyyyy smallll. I myself, have one of the smallest hands and fingers amongst my friends and if I found it small then I would like to know how you guys feel about it.

Having used a 9000 for a year it was a bit of a transition. But eventually you find
a style of thumb placement on each key. Sounds silly but it worked for me.

Well, we all like it here otherwise we wouldn't have the phone.

Seriously....what phone do you have now? I was concerned about the size as well, but after a few days, I was good to go. I'd say you need to try it out for a few days before you say it's too small.

And it seems you may have a typing problem anyway since you didn't get the thread title correct.

    I went from a Treo 700w>Treo 700wx>Bold 9000>Bold 9700.

There was a little bit of a transition period between the Treos to the 9000's larger keyboard, then back to a smaller keyboard> I have to say that the 9700's keyboard is my favorite. It is the perfect mix between my old Treos that I used for years and the 9000.

My wife still has a Bold 9000 and when I type on it, I totally prefer my 9700.

I've only had my 9700 for 1week and 2 days.

Agreed it does take a bit of getting used to, but you do. I tend to use my thumbnails, which I now keep really short.

Deja vu. All over again. If you are going to make size an issue, at least try the device out for more than the time in the store. I don't know what device that you are coming from but the trackpad, the OS 5.0, better battery life, more memory, threaded test messages, more customization possibilities. There are so many things that make this one of the best berries. Having owned the 9000, I found it to be a little klunky and not very professional in appearance despite its great features having come from a Curve but the size was not the first thing that came to mind about the device. Otherwise, I would not have bought it. I thought about what a huge improvement that it was over my Curve. Your opinion, which you are definitely entitled to, would have more credence if you had owned the 9700 for a while and returned it because of the size. The size is such a small consideration given the features of the 9700.

Keyboard seemed small at first, coming from a Bold 9000...but after a few days it was a non-issue, and now feels right for how I type.

I almost sent this phone back yesterday, but I'm glad I didn't. I'm getting used to the keyboard, and starting to love it...I came from the Storm1 and Storm2, so I'm really used to the big landscape virtual keyboard.

I had the chic-let style keys on my 8900 and I have to say that I am still getting used to typing on the 9700, but it is a lot more smooth and fluid to type on the guitar fret style for me. I think that no matter what type of keyboard you have it takes time to adjust when making a switch.

QWERTY keyboard over a virtual any day. I have to admit that I am learning to adapt when I used my iPod Touch but you don't see me posting any whiny comment about the virtual keyboard and how bad a company Apple is. I just adapt, improvise and overcome.

The 9700 keypad I find to be very big amongst other blackberry keypads. I love the way it feels unlike the old curves and 8900 I had the clicky small keys, the bold 9000 and 9700 keys are perfect for my fingers to use daily and love how it is squishy has a nice comfortable feeling. I do not know about anyone else but the 9700 is amazing!

9000 owners must have device envy to be making such a big deal about the keyboard. If there was something more substantial to discuss such as the browser or OS, those are the ones worth having.

I have big hands and honestly, f29 explained it perfectly. Using it in the store won't do you any justice. I actually didn't like it in the store either. I used it and with a couple days, the adjustment was made.

Former Curve and Bold 9000 owner here. I thought I would hate the 9700 and bashed it before it was released. One of my issues was the smaller size of the 9700. Long behold after a few minutes with it in the store on release day, I was sold. It only took a few days to get used to the smaller keyboard and will never go back to a trackball device ever again. This without a doubt is the best Blackberry I have ever owned.

IMHO, when two thumb typing, the 9700 is 95% as good as the 9000 (still my favorite Berry ) One thumb typing the 9700 blows the 9000 away.

I do agree that store time is not always the best indicator of how well you will be able to use or enjoy a device. Things like this are all a matter of personal preference however, so the only one who can say whether or not it works for you, is you

Whether it's one thumb or two, it takes TIME to get used to the 9700 keyboard and to decide if it is the device for you. Try it before you whine it.
