Storm 1 and Storm 2, thoughts as of today
- I have played around enough with both phones to come to this conclusion. If you have the Storm 1 with new software, don't waste your upgrade on Storm 2. Get a droid or something else.
The bottom line between both of these phones is that there really is not that much difference besides the wifi and more memory( which most users could care less about). The Storm 2 has not taken off like many said it would( Salomandrin). To be quite honest, it's a fail from a sales perspective. Don't get me wrong, the Storm 1 put many of us through the wringer many times. As it is today, there really isn't much else to expect out of it. Had the Storm 1 been launched with 328, this forum would be pretty dead.
If you really have an urge to use your upgrade, get either of the Droids or the Samsung Omnia 2.12-11-09 11:05 AMLike 0 - I have to say that I disagree 100% with this post. I, for one, am more than satisfied with my Storm2 and am glad I chose it over the Eris.
Yes, the Storm2 upgrades the memory and WiFi over the original, but it also fixes the digitizer seal issue with dust getting under the screen. It also is leaps and bounds over the original Storm in terms of screen click, and the added memory adds to the performance.
The Droid phones aren't, to me (and obviously VZW), not that great. I looked at the Eris long and hard before making my decision on the Storm2 and I made my choice. They both have the same processor on the same network, but the Storm2 seemed to offer more.
1. The Storm1/2 has a flash. That's all I can say there.
2. The Storm1/2 has a larger screen with a higher resolution.
3. VZW released a public statement admitting that the Droid wasn't such a "racehorse duct tapped to a scud missle" as they had once believed.
4. The thing that the Storm2 lacks that the Eris has are widgets, but that is said to be in the works for the Storm2.
I could go on, but I personally believe that the phones speak for themselves.
Threads like these need to not exist. If you have a problem with the Storm1/2, go somewhere else and leave us alone. I didn't go to your message board and badmouth your device, did I?12-11-09 05:08 PMLike 0 - I have played around enough with both phones to come to this conclusion. Although, I really wouldn't recommend the Droid. The phone its self is ugly as ****. I'm waiting for the Passion/dragon/bravo to come out. Those phones are going to blow the droid away.12-12-09 10:56 AMLike 0 - I'm sure people who haven't upgraded from the storm 1 yet do want to hear about the storm 2 whether good or bad. Should he have just pranced around in a flower bed sprinkling fairy dust in the air and talking about how perfect the storm is?12-12-09 11:32 AMLike 0
- Guys you are so wrong, its what happens when you can't see past what's in front of you.
The Storm2 hardware upgrade are major improvements to the storm 1. Sure the look very much alike. But the screens are a world apart. I use my storm daily to write emails articles and posts. the OS 5 upgrade is a huge improvement but just from my visits to the VZ store I can see huge improvements to the screen. For starters typing is more accurate, cut-n-paste is amazingly accurate, I can pin point my selection like a real text editor should allow for.
The only reason why I have not upgraded is because I'm cheap, and I'm waiting for RIM to have some of those killer sales they has for the Storm1
The Droid is nice but I'll take the sleek Storm over the Droid any day

Posted from my CrackBerry at wapforums.crackberry.com12-12-09 12:14 PMLike 0 - I've had my Storm 1 for just over a year. It's been replaced twice for USB port issues. I'm still not very happy with several things...the OS still has several issues with memory leaks, sluggishness, function and design. The browser is a joke and a poke. The BB email isn't true HTML.
I got my offer from Verizon to upgrade it to the Droid or Storm2 but I'm going to wait for the Passion/Dragon/Bravo. While the Storm2 would be my pick between the MotoDroid (hate all forms of text input) and the Storm2, I don't think it's worth the money. If they gave it to me free, I'd extend 2 years, but if I'm paying for the phone...it's probably going to be an Android based phone.
The other droid, HTC Eris shows me that an upscale version with Android 2.1 and a 1GHz Snapdragon processor (aka Passion/Dragon?bravo) might be the right one.
Samsung Omina2? Not even close to worthy replacement to the Storm unless it had Android 2.1 instead of WinMo.
The Storm2 with 5.0 is 12 months late to the game. It should of been the first Storm.12-12-09 04:53 PMLike 0 - I disagree. I passed on storm 2. I played with the in store s2 and did not notice a huge difference and decided to see what the droid hype was about. The droid was returned 48 hours later. There are huge flaws with exchange. Email was terrible. Typing lagged and the apps are overrated. Returned for the storm2 and couldn't be happier. The piezo screen is reason enough to upgrade. Add in wifi and more memory and its a no brainer.

I also want to say that the Droid is by far one of the ugliest phones I have ever laid my eyes on. I would be embarrassed to have others see me with that monstrosity.12-12-09 06:00 PMLike 0
