- I loved my 8900 but I really had bad luck with it. First 8900, the memory card broke on day 1. Brought it back, got a new one. #2 - the keypad stopped working after 3 weeks and did a warranty exchange. #3 the current one got dropped in water while I was getting a pedicure and thanks to you guys saved it with rice. Last week, I went to a company function - a big party - and I was answering a text and someone knocked into me and spilled their drink all over my phone. I put it in rice but no go. It powers on and then goes off. So......I could have replaced with insurance, I think I still might but I decided to splurge and I bought a 9700.
The 8900 is a phenomenal phone no complaints. The 9700 is fantastic too. I like the keyboard better; it's easier to type on with my nails and I do have 3G coverage which is nice.
I would have stayed with the 8900 but with it breaking again....well I splurged.
Thanks so much for all of your help in this forum. I learned A LOT.11-29-09 08:53 PMLike 0 - I'm so over my 8900. The 9700 doesn't have anything that screams spends $ to me. Is there anything really really special about tmo's 9700 that I need to know about? I guess I could search. Haha. Actually, I'll do that right now. :P
Posted from my CrackBerry at wapforums.crackberry.com11-29-09 09:06 PMLike 0 - i just upgraded my curve to a 9700.
my curve was running os5 , so really nothing had changed.
the 9700 has the faster processor so its a little bit zippier.
it has nice long lasting battery for 3g radio, which the bold1 never had.
unless you find your curve slow and sluggish, or old and tired then the bold2 will help keep things fresh.
battery wise, the bold2 goes the same distance as my curve in 3g form. good to about 830am - 1am .
the bold2 shouldve been the 8900. the form factor is nearly identical. they shouldve kept the bigger screen for the bold line, and given the existing bold a case refresh.
its more of the same thing really for the last few years from RIM. same os, small improvements. nicer exterior. it seems to end there with every new handset.11-29-09 10:46 PMLike 0 - I'm so over my 8900. Posted from my CrackBerry at wapforums.crackberry.com11-30-09 02:41 AMLike 0 - I bought a 9700 for my wife a week ago... helping her get to know what Blackberry is all about is fun, and of course introducing her to the CB community... beyond the trackpad, the speed of the device is fantastic... I did a battery to both devices... the 9700 was up and running at least a minute quicker, if not more like 2 minutes quicker than my 8900... it does take some getting used to... OS 5.0 has a few things in different locations than on my 4.6.1 version... but everything is there.11-30-09 07:39 AMLike 0
- I didn't realize that some of my stuff wouldn't work. In the past, when I transferred from one device to another, I would get a prompt that says whatever theme or app is not compatible. That didn't happen. I have like 37 shortcut icons (I know..I know) & 5 didn't work so I had to remove them and had to update quickpull. I used LED reset and that doesn't work. The threaded sms is nice but the interface is like BBM so it takes some getting used to. For me, after using a BB for a few years, I don't look at the instructions (I only did that the first time) so it's trial by fire and of course I get a lot of info from everyone here. And even tho I transferred settings, I still spent at least an hour putting everything in place. Worth it tho.11-30-09 11:47 AMLike 0
- I jumped from the 8900 to the 9700 as well and I'm not looking back. I sold my 8900 this past Friday and truthfully I do kind of miss it. It felt alot nicer in my hands, 9700 is a tad thin I think, but I have no gripes, just going on my 4th replacement tho which is annoying because I haven't bothered installing all my apps lol.
Bold 9000 as my backup.11-30-09 10:41 PMLike 0 - Hi,
in past few months I had 9000, 8900 and last week I got my new 9700. 8900 is light phone with bad body build (specially keyboard) and lack of GPS. 9000 is much better for my daily life but its too heavy. So 9700 is best choice I think. Its not that heavy as 9000, its build is much better then 8900 and it has GPS.11-30-09 11:06 PMLike 0 - I would have to say that the 9700 is an upgrade for those carrying the current tour unless tou want to wait for the essex, and 8900 curve owners. With the implementation of wifi, better processor and keyboard all would be happy with this device. And it appeals to woman as well, so you don't have to carry the masculine looking Bold around.
