I got my 8900 9 months ago (and I had to re-up my contract to 2 years to get it). Now the 9700 comes out and I really want the 3G and the Trackpad and was able to get the Customer Support lady from T-Mobile to allow me to get the 2-year re-up discount (I'm not supposed to be eligible again since I just did it 9 months ago). My question is, is tacking on another 2 years to my contract worth it for the 9700?

Considering you just did it 9 months ago, I'm pretty sure that's not too big of a deal. I mean its personal preference, but I love my 9700. I just got my 8900 in January as well, but I made the switch to the 9700 (though I paid full price because I went into the store, I didn't feel like waiting to find the right CS person + shipping, lol).

I guess I'm just worried that tacking on another 2 years is a bad thing. But you're right, I'm only 9 months in...so really, I'd only be adding another 15 months, not a full 24 months. Thanks for the reply!

It depends - do you plan to switch carriers any time soon? I was on a 1-yr contract with Tmo when I started with them 4 years ago, and have been out of contract since then. So, in retrospect, the 2-year contract doesn't seem like a big deal. On the other hand, prior to Tmo, I signed a 2-yr contract with AT&T and broke that, and again with Sprint. Bad service both times, so I consider the termination fee a wash.

Yeah.... If you have a contract and save anything more than $200 then the term fee doesn't really matter.

Asking if it's worth it in a forum of Blackberry enthusiasts and apologists isn't going
to get you a subjective answer.

You are only really upping an additional 9 months on top of what you have now. So yes it is worth it, especially if you get to keep your 8900. Get it unlocked and sell it that should more than pay for another 9 months.

You wouldnt be adding 15 months...your contract would reset on the day you buy the 9700 and it would be a new 2 years from that day.

You're right. What I meant to say was, I'd really be tacking on another 21 months vs. 24...saving me about 3 months (since I'm only 9 months into my contract from the last time I extended it). 21 months is still a heck of a long time. Thanks for all your inputs!

I'm tryin to figure out where 21 months is coming from.. You'd be renewing for another 24 months

Honestly, I wouldn't do it. I'd wait for summer releases that will be just as good and as worth it as the 9700.

Sorry. My math is all over the place today (and I'm an Engineer!). Let me try to explain if I can. Here is my understanding of it all. I extended my contract 9 months ago. That means I have 15 months left to go before my contract ends. If I extend my contract today, my contract would end 24 months from today, 15 of which I would have been in contract anyways from my first extension. So I'd really be adding 9 more months to the original date in which my contract would have ended (24-15=9).

Oh, and just for an update. I pulled the trigger a couple of minutes ago. I will be getting a 9700! (At the cost of tacking on 2 years of more Tmobile Service).
