Well that's a question only you can answer. Many people can tell you to get a case but if you really feel that you don't need/want one, then don't get one. I personally hate using cases so I just put mine in the holster.

When I had my 8900 I took very good care of it but it started to chip off the chrome. Eventually I scraped all of it off and went all Black for a while until I ordered my all white housing.
My wife has dropped her several times and now she has the iSkin vibe.
I am looking and will consider a case if it looks and feels right.
Accidents happen, especially if you don't use a holster. All it takes is just one drop, and you have cosmetic damage. It's easily preventable with a case.
The case I use with my 8900 is a leather one I got months ago. It flips over the screen party and the magnet puts it into sleep mode and protects the screen/keys.
There isn't one for the 9700 as I know of but once there is, I suggest getting it!

I was going to get something really strong, maybe not an ottebox, but something along those lines. Then I saw how gorgeous the device is and I don't want to hide it behind something huge and ugly.
But if I don't protect it with something huge and ugly, it will get chipped...decisions, decisions....
i never use the leather pouch cuz idk. but i only use the whole body silicon cuz i work with food and dont wanna mess it up. on my day off bb goes commando
It all depends on how you use your device. If you sit at a desk all day, maybe not. But for me, in the field, in the truck, some at the desk, I want my phone on my side in the holster. I won;t even lay my phone on my desk for long as I will get up and leave without it. I got to handle 60+ calls a day and want to be able to reach down and "easily" pull my phone out of the holster to use it.
I also hate any type of case or protection that stays on the phone while using it.
If you want real protection, get an otterbox. My father has a curve and when you take it out, you'd swear it was brand new. They really work well. Ive used skins, feather case on my storm. As stated above, the 9700 looks almost too good to cover up lol.
I never used a skin or case or holster on my 8900 & I regret it now. I would never put it in a case though, the device is too nice, smooth & clean to put it in a case & cover it up.
Definitely purchasing a BodyGuardz skin though & gonna continue to use the holster that came with the phone.
For me a case is a no brainer. Just like swaddling a baby, my 9000 gets protection. Lives in a leather pouch most of the time and occasionally in a holster.
I use the seidio innocase II and it hardly adds any bulk, looks great, and protects the device well. My fiance doesn't like cases and her berry looks like ground hamburger after 2-3 falls to the pavement. If my berry looked like that, I'd be very very upset.
This phone is beautiful and is meant to me exposed and used more then you can imagine. New bezel or even the shell of the phone is a cheap replacement. Love it, use it and enjoy it for it's purpose.
I use a Case-Mate Barely There (silver), and when I leave the house it goes in a leather holster. I know, I know, I'm a geek as one person on here put it.
I say get one, I use mine regularly. Maybe because I am accident prone and often drop my phones. I haven't dropped the Bold yet and hopefully I won't but I think a case is pretty useful in just keeping it protected. I agree w/ lovemytoys because I treat my Bold the same way. =D

Does the 50-50 split on the shell of the innocase II really provide protection when dropped? Wont it just open up due to impact and throw the phone out? Also, do you think that with the innocase II on, the phone will still fit into the OEM leather holster (9700)??
