    To sum up what he said above, yes. Use the free app mentioned above "Camera Mute App"

    In addition to the free app mentioned in the post above, if you don't already use QuickLaunch, "Camera Mute" is one of it's many added features and well worth the money (if you have a lot of apps on your Blackberry, QuickLaunch is a life changing experience. LOL). If you do use, be sure that you have the latest version installed.
