Just navigating around the phone is amazingly fast. Took me a few hours to get used to smaller screen and trackpad but I can't give it up now.

Browsing - wow! I don't think I need to use Opera anymore, the browser screams on both 3G and WiFi...seeing the progress indicator slide across smoothly when loading pages - so good!

That's a big jump, I had the 8300 before my 8900 & that was a huge jump for me.

B-L-A-Z-I-N-G. That's the best way to describe it....the 9700 SCREAMS through the menus....you can really see the difference when scrolling through the Advanced options menus and bringing up the lists of installed Applications...it flies. It moves from screen-to-screen and app-to-app in the blink of an eye. Really a pleasure to use throughout the day! Very pleased!

The screen is the same size diag as the 9000 screen. The 9700 is taller

<Scratching head> Huh? How is a 9700 on 3G faster than an 8900 on WiFi?

Hows the back cover, does it feel cheap and has some play in it like the 8900?

I don't think he said that. However it is possible. All depends on the wifi chip inside the phone. Obviously they will work to make a better 3g chip than wifi since it's what people will be using more.

Question for 9700 users: Can you notice a difference in speed with 3G in apps? Facebook, Viigo, etc.?

    That's not what I said.

The device is quicker - And if i'm honest the time to render wepages between the 8900 on wifi and the 9700 with a good 3g reception is probably much the same.

9700 Is a far quicker device all in though - and the trackpad adds to the "Snappiness"

Absolutely nothing like the 8900's back cover. I used to get told off for using the 8900 late at night as Mrs Grunty could hear the back cover squeaking! The 9700 is rock solid - no give at all with any of the chasis. The keyboard doesn't even make a noise!

    Get one!!

I'm really impressed as well. This is my 2nd Blackberry...I went from the curve 8330 to this and all I have to say is that it was worth $400. Well technically, I only paid $120 technically because I sold my curve for $280..but that's not the point. It's super fast...I can't even keep up with the scrolling! lol Plus, I love the fact that NOW I can send messages while on the phone.. woot!

I have just upgraded from a 9000 to a 9700... amazingly fast. I thought the keyboard would be an issue as I suffer from "fat finger syndrome", but its just as good to use as the old bold... still getting used to the trackpad, but getting there slowly! I miss the feedback from the rollerball...

I think what he may be referring to is that the faster processer renders the page/menu's faster than the 8900. I don't know that it's that much faster - but it does seem snappier. There's a couple of things to consider, I suppose:

    Processor Speed
    OS version difference
****- maybe the trackpad (as an input device) makes it feel snappier

Guess I could do some testing to quantify- I do have both

    :P

As my first blackberry device, I can't compare the 9700s speed to other bb devices. However, on wifi it downloads a little bit faster than my laptop! Excellent movement between applications, as there doesn't seem to be anything this processor can not handle. I'm glad I've become a member of the bb community with this phone

Congrats on owning your first BlackBerry. And a very nice one to start off with, as the 9700 is a great little device. Welcome to CrackBerry I'm sure you'll find there are many things you learn about and find for your new 9700. Be sure to check out the wallpaper and themes section as well. Enjoy.
