So I just called Rogers Customer Services, I have only had my bold 9000 since feb of this year and had signed a year contract at that time to get it for free. But I wanted the 9700 so the guy sold me the new bold 9700 to me for $299 +$35 fee. Is that a good deal?

The guy on the phone offered me $299, no activation fee, and $50 credit on my account (to compensate for Telus/Bell's lower price). I didn't take it, yet, though. This would be my first phone, too, not a renewal. You just have to be persistent.

It would be a different story coz you are a brand new customer and they wanted to keep you.
We are all here discussing as an existing user with unfinished terms.
Personally, I have 24 more months to go before I become a free bird.

Wait, you signed a 1-year contract to get your 9000 for free? Am I reading that correctly? Doesn't sound right..

No, he renewed his contract for 3 years starting from today (the contract from February is negated).

I'm curious as to what happens with your Bold now. You get to keep it?

Sorry if I am confusing the issue here.

But for those of you who are not eligible for a HUP but upgraded through Rogers nonetheless, you say you are paying $299+$35+Tax for the new 9700?

Curious because the Rogers website has the MSRP at something like $599.00. I would be interested if it is only $299+ fees.

    Thanks for your help!

Yes, officially you have to pay the retail price 599 + tax if you are not eligible for HUP. Try your luck to call them and have them transferred you to customer relations. You never know if they will surprise you with a better deal.

I thought that if you did your upgrade through Rogers you now had to wait 24 months before you could even change your smartphone??

I wasn't due for mu upgrade till July 2010 and Rogers gave me the upgrade early. May have something to do with the fact I have 2 BlackBerries and my bill is $250 per month.

From what OP wrote in his post, it sounds like he said he signed a 1-year contract in February to get his 9000 for free, and today was able to renew for 3 years and get the 9700 for $299

OP can you please clarify your post?

Its not 3 years extensions. It should be a 3 year renewal from today.

I am about 13 months into my 3yr contract. I just called Rogers and happened to get an extremely pleasant CSR. I thought I would play nice since she was being nice and I asked about the possability of an early renewal for the Bold 9700 (I currently have a Bold which I bought off Craigslist). I expected nothing being I am only 13 months in, but I thought I would try anyways.

I was told pleasantly that there was nothing they could do (which I expected). I then mentioned that I originally got a "cheap" Sony phone when I signed up, and NOT my Bold. I told them I bought the Bold outside Rogers. I also mentioned that my 1 year HUP was up for renewal one week AFTER they changed it to two years on everything in August, and I lost it.

I was then put on hold and the CSR came back after looking further back in my account (to confirm I did indeed NOT get the Bold from them) and after apologizing, the CSR politely told me that I could get a 9700 for $299+$35 if I renewed for 3 years.

I of course said yes, thank you. Renewing for 3 years was a no brainer considering I was only just over a year into my current contract, so really, I was only adding just over a year when I renewed.

I got it for $299 + $35 activation fee plus $105 account credit which is my monthly plan cost. $229 exactly what Bell would have cost so not really winning anything but better then most ppl I've heard do

I currently have the iPhone 3gs which I love but when I saw the new bold I knew it would be perfect to use for business. So while at work today I called Rogers and got a nice woman CSR. I asked her abot switching my SIM card between phones and that I wanted to continue using my 6gb of data from my iPhone plan. She put me on hold for 5 minutes and came back telling me that she put a code on my data account that would let me use the 6gb data plan on both the iPhone and blackberry. It also opened up all the blackberry options for me when using the bb.

I then told her that I would like to order the bb bold 9700. So she started the process and I asked her if my next bill would include the $599 + tax for the phone. She said it's only $299!! I couldn't believe it, and I'm sure she made a mistake. I just upgraded from the iPhone 3G to the 3Gs this June Whig means a I have 32 months left on my contract and know HUP until June 2010.

Easily the greatest deal I've seen. Oh and I got s $100 credit to my next bill, basically paying my bill.

If i do upgrade to 9700 do i have to give the bold back to rogers?

I am still on a 3 year contract about 8 months in to it.

No, when you do an upgrade you keep your existing phone. It looks like they won't upgrade you until you have had your bold for 2 years.
