I have searched and searched. None of the fixes have worked. I have 5.0.0.238. Sometimes randomly my backlight will dim. Especially in ladnscape mode.

Is this just a glitch I need to suck up and deal with till it is fixed?

I see the dimming coming and going and really to me it has been no problem just dealing with it. I figure, stuff happens, and best to just roll with it.

I have a Storm1 with OS 5.0.0.328 and I haven't had any dimming problems at all. I don't even know what the symptoms are. What, the screen just randomly dims when you're using it? Does it brighten back up if you touch the screen? If I'm not experiencing it at all and we have the same phone and OS version, I wonder if it's a third-party app on yours causing some sort of conflict somewhere.

Edit: I just realized you said you have 5.0.0.238. Is that a typo?

I have the latest update on the S1 and I too have the dimming problem when placing the phone in landscape mode...in portrait is remains bright but as soon as you place phone in landscape mode it automatically dims.

there is a solution for this...go into options, change the light settings to a lower amount, save at the lower amount and then you have to go back in settings and change to higher amount and then save. You would have to do this each time you do a battery pull or reboot.

I have the issue too. But what I think the issue is with the light sensor (if there's one) and the acceliromter (how ever you spell it lol) I believe there extra sensitive.

Because I noticed that when I'm on my bed and the night lamp is on it'll dim, then, when I turn my lamp off it'll get bright again.

That's my theory. Hope it helps. Of it doesn't system restore.

I keep getting dimming problems in Portrait now, as well. Landscape I was used to so I started using Lock Tilt but now, as I said, Portrait has become a frequent problem.

It's usually coming out of a 'sleep' screen (black screen) it goes bright, then really dim for about 30 seconds, then back to bright after typing a little bit. I dunno.

I have the same issues. What's presently working for me is to set to 100% brightness and set autodim to ON. That way when the screen dims its still bright enough to use.

(Ok, so that last thread was started by me... But in my defense, I was certain the Core Update through DM that came out the other day fixed the issue as it stopped dimming for 2 days after the supposed update.)

Meanwhile... considers making a new post about why the new official OS 5.0.0.328 loses 3G functionality.

If you turn autodim ON, you wont have the dimming in landscape, but it will dim according to the ambient light in the room

    brighter environment = brighter backlight

it's kind of an either/or thing but that's what I keep my settings on now

    60 brightness, autodim on

yeah i noticed this when playing around a couple days ago. I normally have these settings so i think this is why its never been a problem for me. When auto is off i noticed more of the dimming happening.

the autodim light detection seems to override the accelerometer driven dimming.

I went ahead and put the auto dim on. I am going to see if I notice a difference.

I know that this has been posted a million times, but out of all those pixes, not one works.

The only "fix" that I have found to work is installing BB Light 1.95. If you do the settings right( i have mine activated on startup, and always on - on user activity and out of holster) it will keep your screen bright ALL THE TIME. But downside is battery probably last long. So I would say this would be a last resort option for the people that are just totally fed up with the dimming.

mine dimmed like crazy b4. on Tues I reloaded .238 cause of some issues. did a selective restore so my settings did NOT transfer. i usually go in and change the auto dim to no, but decided to leave it. my screen does dim on both landscape and portrait, but no more than ~80% brightness as it should. no more dim till unreadable!!!!!!

I do not seem to have this problem.
FWIW, my settings are as follows:

    Backlight Brightness: 60
    Backlight Timeout: 30 second
    Auto Dim: On
    LED Coverage Indicator: Off

My screen does adjust to the available ambient light, but the adjustment makes sense given the available light. Hope this may help some who have this problem.
