On my Storm 2, the LED appears to be located to the left of the actual slot. The blinking LED is therefore somewhat muted and indirect. Viewed from the extreme right side of the phone, you can see the LED directly. But looking directly at the LED Slot, the LED is not visible.
Mine is like that as well. Supposedly it was done so that colors such as purple would appear to be that actual color, and not a blue and red LED being lit up at the same time. Who really knows though.
