I was at my store at abot 8:45 AM for a 10 AM opening. Another guy rolled in about 9:30 AM who was looking to get the phone as well. By the time i finally got the phone (whole BS story involved...) and was on my way out, people were coming in to replace, exchange and try to finagle their way into a Storm 2.
I showed up right at opening time and there was not one person there... 15 minutes later, still not one person...
I was really bummed when I saw that Verizon has a higher official OS release for the Storm 1 than the Storm 2. Storm 2 comes with 5.0.0.320 and Storm 1 has 5.0.0.328, WTF?

Storm 1 has been out 11 months, you'd think they'd want to take care of the thousands of phones already sold before improving a new one.
I think many potential BB buyers are waiting for the Droids; hence the tepid consumer response on day 1.
I am not sure as to other phones how they handle email, but does the droid, or even the Palm or any other smartphone for that matter, have the separate inboxes and notifications for all emails, or do you need to use an app or internet to check email? If I received emails in any other manner than how I do on a blackberry, no other phone would be an option. Hopefully my question is clear.
I arrived at 730, with no one is sight. By 8 one other person showed and it was the two of us until 915 when two other people came in but they were looking at dumb phones. It was nothing like last year.
Got there 20 minutes before opening. Small crowd of 5 people behind me. First one in and got the first Storm 2. It appeared that only one other person was there for the same reason. Wonder what it will be like a week from Friday when the Droid becomes available?
i got there 5 mins after opening. i was the 2nd person on the store the other guy was already buying his storm2 too. there were a couple other customers coming in and before i left 2 more people came in for the storm2. we all talked about crackberry! and what it was like to wait for this phone!! they said they had about 20 units but expected to be gone by end of the day.
i have my phone and am setting things up and am getting used to it, and falling in love.... bye bye 2 year old curve!
Me and my husband went this morning after the store opened. No long lines, but they were going fast. The verizon store location we went to only had 8. Also, if you go to the store, you have to send off for the rebate. If you purchase on line, the rebate is instant.
I was at my local Verizon an hour before the store opened. No one in sight. I waited and finally 2 people showed up about 10 minutes before the store opened. When we got into the store, there was only one Verizon rep and I had to wait 20 minutes to be helped. Lame. Very disappointed.
Also, I find out that my NE2 is only $50 now. It changed from $100 down to $50 even with plans over $100 a month. Lame.
I currently own a storm 1 and will be trying out a storm 2 but my gut tells me that I am not going to be impressed with the storm2. Which means I am left with few options; Droid, Eris, or keeping what I have.

I was the first one in the store at 10am at the Boulder, CO corporate store. A few people came in while I was finishing up at the counter looking for an S2, but there was nobody else waiting for the store to open.
