For those with tethering issues
- I was having the same tethering issues as some of the others; it seems the issue might be with the new VZaccess manager 7.04. I was having the issues where it would say configuring modem, searching for device, and so on in a continuous loop. I removed the new VZaccess manager and found a backup of the prior version and tethering issues are gone. Not sure if the older version is available on versions site so I uploaded it. Hope this helps some of you guys. Link for the previous version is below.

- Don't they test the damned software before releasing it?! I've been chasing my **** for over an hour with this problem.
Thanks for the link!10-26-09 03:29 PMLike 0 - I spent a good hour on the phone with Verizon this afternoon troubleshooting this issue, currently unresolved, but it's being escalated. Hopefully they will find an official resolution soon. I was able to prove to the rep that the phone is working fine, it connects to the laptop successfully and the Desktop Manager works. She agreed that the problem seems to be isolated to the new VZAM software and the OS 5.0 update.
If and when they get back to me with a resolution I will post here.10-26-09 05:40 PMLike 0 - So what do you think, should we all call on this and get our Rant on. Seeing as it's a programing issue, I doubt it would help much. I've become rather impatient lately though, not just with verizon, they'd just me by latest "target".10-28-09 08:49 AMLike 0
- there was an update for the 5.0 desktop manager that came out in the last few days that is supposed to help with the issues with 5.0 device software and vzaccess manager. If you are having issues with your vzaccess manager recognizing your device, I would try downloading the new service pack 1 for the desktop manager.
To be honest when an issue is "escalated" for Verizon Wireless it goes to a network repair team, that team right now is 6 to 8 days behind.
Since the service pack is free and only takes a few minutes to download and install I would try it if you need to tether before next week sometime. We got an email at work about the service pack fixing the issue. Hope this helps.10-29-09 09:04 AMLike 0 - I was having the same tethering issues as some of the others; it seems the issue might be with the new VZaccess manager 7.04. RapidShare: 1-CLICK Web hosting - Easy Filehosting10-31-09 06:28 PMLike 0 - I am running VZAccess Manager version 6.9.4, and still can't connect. I also updated DTM to 5.0.0.18, but still no connection. The DUN that was provided by my work doesn't connect, either.
I may be going back to .323 where all these things worked.11-01-09 08:15 PMLike 0 - nice post man yeah i found this out the hard way after messing with the new vzaccess for 2 hours then tried the old one and it worked go figure.11-01-09 08:18 PMLike 0

Using an older version than what you can DL from vzam.net isn't as simple as maybe it should be. The software available on vzam.net (the official download source) bundles a verzion of vzam and the driver for whatever device you pick. Some vzam CDs have all the different drivers on them as well, but can you ever get that lucky?
You need to get your driver loaded, and some version of VZAM separately.11-01-09 08:28 PMLike 0 -
- Tethering stopped working for me when I did the official update. Talked with Verizon Tech on Friday and was told that it was a know issue. It would not work until fixed from their end but they did not have a firm time frame for resolution, but I was told to try the connection periodically as it would be fixed without my having to do another update. Tonight, may phone suddenly reset. I only noticed this because I was driving and saw it light up. When I got to my destination, I tried tethering access and it is now working!!!! Posting this from my tethered Storm.11-01-09 09:49 PMLike 0

- I should have given more info. I am not using Access at all. Never have. I am bluetooth tethered to my MacBook Pro. Tethering did not work at all last week. I tried battery pulls with no success. They paired successfully, but it consistently told me that there was a modem error and disconnected. The Verizon Tech told me that the "fix" would be pushed to all users, not requiring us to initiate an update. I have not called them, but I suspect that is what happened last night causing my phone to reset. Regardless, it is working perfectly now.11-02-09 07:27 AMLike 0
- VZ Access Manager uses the standard dial-up connection style, so long as the phone is being recognized by the O/S, the dialup option can be used as a backup.
The phone number to dial is #777 without a username/password...and...the baud rate I've used is 19200 and 57600.
Still looking at going higher but I thought I'd share this in case the software really drops a deuce at a time when you need it...sort of like me when I was 2 hours from home and about to embark on a 1700 mile road trip.
Good times.11-19-09 09:53 AMLike 0 - I had the same issue as everyone else; VZAM was working fine until I upgraded to 7.0.14 so I tried going back to 6.9. I couldn't download per the original link without becoming a premium member.
You can download VZAM from cnet downloads (sorry I can't post the link not enough posts). Just go to cnet's site and search for "vzaccess manager" and you'll find it. The site says it's 6.7.8 but when you download it's actually 6.10. I just installed and tethering is back to normal with OS v5.0.12-03-09 04:03 PMLike 0 - I have this same issue but the links you guys provided for the older versions on rapidshare are no longer any good.:
